I'm meeting my dad at Richland Chambers on Saturday... How have the whites/hybrids been doing? Are they still hitting slabs, tailhummers? How's the topwater action? Any info will be appreciated, and I'll post a report when we get back.

I was on the water early last Sunday morning. We saw very little topwater action. Many boats circled up on the flats, but did not see many fish caught. Around 8:00 we trolled the hell-pet and caught about 12-14 very nice size whites. We were using 8lb test between the hellbender and the pet spoon and had one break the line. Finished the day around Pelican island slabbing the humps. We caught a couple of nice whites and one large 24 inch hybrid. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Check out this map its awsome. I personally would recommend the point on the main lake closest to the damn, since thats where we've done the best. Be caughtious of and of the areas in the chambers or richland creek arms, as I hear they are heavily timbered.

I took some kids out this morning and we caught bunches of fish schooling just north of the spillway along the dam. Topwaters when they're up and slabs when they were down. We also caught a few in the south corner of the dam early. Action was over around 11:00. Hope this helps.

This will sound like a silly question, but here goes anyways. I have never fished for Sand Bass at any other time except during the spawn and would like to get into some but I have no idea on the correct way to fish a slab, any tips on how to use them would be greatly appreciated.

You want to use topwater this time of year, I hear a tranparent torpedo works good. If you want to get deep don't slab now, use a hellpet(do a search to find out what this is).

navdoc,

We fish a Slab year around and catch 90% of the White Bass we catch on them. Between my Son( who also Guides) and I , we'll clean around 30,000 fish this year and estimate that our Customers will catch somewhere around three times that many. Of course , this is over 350 trips a year and we average three Customers in a Boat. White Bass will normally be larger on the Slab caught fish than the Topwater Fish. In the Summer, just drop the Slab to the bottom and raise the Rod Tip up about a Rod Length. If you dont' get bit, reel it in slow and steady. If that doesn't work, give it a fast retrieve. There's no "magic" to working a Slab. Let the fish tell you how they want it. I use Glitter Slabs ( www.rsrlures.com ) exclusively. Keeps my Tackle Box simple for Whites...Slabs, Rat-L-Traps, Tailhummers & Tiny Torpedos.

Most importantly, if you locate the fish Schooling on Top in 35' or less depth water, try a Slab. You might be surprised at the Quantity and Quality of fish you'll catch. Lastly, if you want to learn a lot in a short period of time, hire a Guide. You'll shorten your learning curve by a year or so in a Half Day Trip. There are numerous Quality Guides who post on the TFF.

Have a Good One!
