Getting a new reel for fishing texas rigged plastics. gonna put on 12 or 14 lb fluro. Which would you pick from each group?
Loving the steez's looks but its really expensive. I really like black and red reels but performance matters the most. I know the curado performs well but I think that green is kindof ugly. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's more of a personal preference, I have a Revo STX for t-rig and Premier for jig and love them. But it's maily what your comfortable with. Try going to the store and match each with the rod of your choice and check the feel and make your decision from there. thumb

out of those 4 i would go with the core 50 mg, way cheaper than the steez and a better braking system, then i would go with the curado

Go to the store, pick 'em up,check the operation, place it on your rod,and see which one feels best. Steez is the most refined, balanced, and lightest weight. Shimano is durable. You can only fish one rig at a time. I prefer better quality, but fewer rigs for my fishing $. Get what you like best,it's a hobby, man.

I have two of the Steez reels and one Core MG 50 too. If you are going to use 12# line or less the MG50 is a great reel. If you want to go to heavier line the Steez are the way to go. Check the line capacity on the two reels. I can make a long cast with 15# Seaguar with the Steez and still have line left on my reel. The Steez will easily handle 20# line where the MG50 is not designed for it.

As far as durability I bought my first Steez 2 years ago and fished it hard with Traps, spinners, crankbaits with no issues at all. I liked it so well I bought another one just like it. Nothing against Shimano but it ain't the reel the Steez is.

I think it is worth the extra $100.

No,man. The Shimanos are handle heavy. Steez is better balanced and more refined.

Magnesium reels in general piss me off, no matter how much you baby them they boat rash like hell. I have never liked how the drag handled on either the Steez, the old 50mg or core....feels like it peels off in increments.

The sleeper reel in the shimano line is the citica. Cheaper than the curado as well...

I place mine on towels so they don't rash. I agree the drags aren't spinning reel smooth but I'll hit the thumbar if I have to. The Steez drag is smoother than the MG.

For me it's Steez all the way...I've got a few of the 103H's and love them all...Although I did send them off and tuned them all w/ABEC Orange Seal Bearings and a good polish of the internals...They've handled everything I've thrown @ them...I'm so impressed w/them that I'm currently having one converted to a 5.8 gear ratio for cranking...

Line wise they've handled 8 lb to 20 lb fluorocarbon w/no probs...I prefer the 103's myself...I mainly short cast/pitch and skip so I don't need the extra spool capacity...

As for reel differences the 103H's have a 85mm handle and the 100H's have a 90mm handle...Outside of the handle and spool capacity I think they are the same...Oh yeah, the 100H's are 0.1 oz. heavier if your a weight junky...

Also if the retail tag is a bit steep for you...You can pick up a used Steez anywhere from 275-350...Depending on appearances...@ least that's the going price I've seen them going for the last couple of months...

Hope that helps in your decision...
