My Fairfield trip started off nice netting all the perch and shad we could hope for in a few throws. But down hill from there. Between 6 and 12 we only hooked 2 reds about 12 inches,we were never in the right spot at the right time.
I seen that others were doing well but it just wasn't my day.
I did see that Jackie and J.V. were there but did not see them on the water, proving I was never in the right spot.Lol

I was there as well. We hooked one small bass one nice tilapia and one 12 inch red. All were caught between 7 and 10. It gets hot out there early. Next time I need to get there a couple of hours earlier.

I fished Fairfield in the summer before. It is very hard to cool off. The outside air is hot, the wind is hot and the water is hot.

The difference is you will post about a less than blockbuster trip and most only post when they go down and catch em like crazy. Fairfield can be a real humbling experience, catch em one day and not the next. Day in and day out its not an easy go.

was down there Sat am. 3 of us caught 20-25, only 4 were keepers...everything else was small. Jackie, saw you out there, wasn't sure it was you till you were leaving. I was in the white xpress along the bank. Did you and your group do any good?

I have a question if anyone would like to help. What is the best bait to use? We used head on shrimp Carolina rigged. I hear some use tilapia as well. Anyone catching reds on artificial bait? Also, when I fish for reds along the Gulf I usually use a popper float with head on shrimp. Anyone having luck this way?

Have tried popping cork w/ zero success. One time used that rig while we were on top of lots of fish that were tailing when they were pumping out of the trinity 2 yrs back. Switched to 3 in shad on carolina rig and proceeded to immediately start catching fish every cast. Tried a few other times also but likewise no luck. Went out 2 weeks ago and did catch one 28in red on a 5 in sassy shad bouncing on bottom but also caught 19 reds on shrimp on carolina rig same trip.

A lot of times the reports I read are the "LOOK AT MEEEE" posts. I guess some people need attention more than others. I don't post reports because A) I don't want anyone else catching fish in my spots and B) I don't want anyone else catching fish in my spots grin

Thanks again for all of the tips Jackie, you are THE master redfish fisherman!!!!!!

On that note, the 2 trips we made in June out to Fairfield sucked. Prior to that we had been wearing them out pretty much every week all thru the spring but didn't really post b/c didn't want to draw too much attention. It was nice having only a handful of boats on that lake. Remember last year when the fishing was good it got really crowded. +1 on the Jackie is the redfish master. Most fish we have caught out there have been using knowledge we picked up on trips w/ him. It is a long drive to go down there and fish blind the first time and not catch any fish.
