First of all, I would like to say hello to everyone. Been lurking for a while, but just now registered.
I'm heading to Surfside on Monday for a few days. How's the catch(reds and specks) been recently? It's been several years since I've been to the coast and could use any current info. Is is mostly surf/jetty fishing in that area? Are there any good bays around there for wade fishing? Thanks in advance for your help and looking forward to swapping stories with everyone on here!

I was thinking about heading down there for some surf/wade/jetty fishing as well. Any current info on water clarity and conditions?

We were there on Friday. The water in the intracoastal was green. From the weather reports, we were expecting light winds but I would say it was blowing SW @10-15. That westerly wind was beginning to make the channel water between the two jetties a bit off color.

Thanks for the report. What was the water like at the surf?

Fished a channel at the end of crab street that comes of the Intercoastal last night and this morning. Caught several undersized reds, had a blast.

Left Dallas about 2 am made it to the first bait shop at 6:30 or so .I was walking up,and one of the workers came out said no live shrimp. So I went to the next one stood in line forever two buckets before they got to me they ran out of live shrimp too.Several people had said they had come from other bait shops everyone else was out .Waited in line to get some fresh dead(that looked about 3 years old). Finally I made it to beach acess 5 my wife and I went into the surf. The water was carmel color about one to two foot waves, low tide and a little weed in the water.Tryed dead shrimp in every part of the water column;and artificials caught nothing.Talked to some guys next to me they had been skunked and were calling it a day .Watching others not doing any good I decided to go wade the bay.We went down to what I called Siy's bait camp caught some mullet in the cast net.Caught a small croaker on a poping cork tryed various other methods nothing else but nibbling.Caught some more mullet to go to SLP.Drove down there went to the left by the bulkhead caught a croker ,and some gaftop. Some guys next to me were catching some small whiteing,a ray ,and a small hammerhead on dead shrimp on the bottom.May have helped to have had live shrimp, and to have been earlier in the surf.I watched others that had live shrimp not catching anything. Was very slow paced even for the trash fish.I did not fish today I spoke my friend that I was going to go out with this morning. He was at the Texas City Dyke.Ladyfish was all he could get out said he would text me if he did any good.No texts at this time.Hope you guys going this week get into some fish. There were a lot of shrimp boats close to the surf do not know if this would cause it to be so slow.Hope this info helps.

We had a bad day today as well. We fished a slick/lull at San Luis pass and caught a ton of croker. Tried the other end of the island across from the ship channel and there were thousands of mullet schooling on that side and we caught a few small specs but that was it. Yesterday we caught a bunch of undersized specs then we went off the surf and caught a small black tip and hammerhead shark (while wading...not fun)

I heard fishing lights was pretty productive off the jetties. We have the little boat lights you buy from academy and hook them up to a 20 dollar battery from walmart. We haven't used them on the jetties but it works for freshwater smile

Thanks for the reports gentleman. Not really what I wanted to hear, but you never know. I'll be there for 5 days, so hopefully I'll get some good water at some point. I'll report back when I hit town. Anyone else go this weekend?

No luck for us either. We got to surfside jetty around 4:00am. We had live shrimp. We set up almost at the end of the jetty but the only thing biting were some small bait snatchers. So i used a smaller hook and caught some bait fish and tried that but that wasn't working either. Tried fishing on top and on bottom but ended up just loosing some leaders. We decided to call it a day by 10:30. We asked everybody on the way out and nobody caught anything worth mentioning, and alot of them had lights. I think maybe it just wasn't a good weekend for fishing. Maybe next time.
Water was calm and green on the gulf side, very light winds.

Same non-catching report from me. Tough Saturday in the surf. Noon to 5pm at Surfside. Live shrimp under popping cork with just a couple of catfish to show for it. Water very muddy. Shrimp boats super close to shore...what does that mean?? Lots of mullet running the surf but nothing chasing them. Muddy water to way past the second gut so no chance at fishing cleaner water.
