Waited out the rain Saturday morning and put in at Cranes Mill around noon. They have the ramp and the dock tore up doing repairs, only one half of the ramp is open to launch. Trolled Shad raps and several other crank baits. Caught 27 whites and one crappie. Mostly males and running pretty small, 10 1/2 - 12 inches. Action was pretty steady. thumb

I fished the pier a couple nights ago for several hours and saw a white here and there. It's a good sign...they are wanting to start! The crappie were biting pretty good also....

I stayed right in that first bay north by the mouth of the river. I could see the pier the whole time we were there.

I didn't get a chance to make it out there on Sunday, although it was gorgeous. I took the dog out for a drive to the pier. Tried to get an annual pass for the boat ramp at the park, but I was told they are all out around the lake. If the weather is good this Sunday, we are going to launch the boat. I hope the whites start! Steven

I will be going Wendsday, what are shad traps, are they like rattletraps? Also are you trolling with downriggers and about how deep? Sorry for all the question but I never have any luck at Canyon Lake.

Rapala shad raps are crankbaits...5/16 oz is my favorite for whites....

There are probably lots of different crank baits you could try. I usually start out with something different on each rod and change around until I find out what they want that day. The area I was fishing gets up to about 10 feet in some places so you want to use something that dives 6 - 8 feet to keep from hanging up. All of the trolling I did that day was just flatlining with crank baits.

Just bought some jointed Shad Raps (3/16) that go 4-6 feet. Maybe if they start to run, these will do well. I'm punking out this weekend because I have family functions, but next weekend, I'm hitting it hard (weather pending). I'm going to stay out there as long as I can all weekend. We'll see. Keep all the reports coming. Steven

I caught four in about as many hours on the dock at Cranes Mill. About ten crappie also...4 keepers. Broke off one really nice female white. I think by the end of next week, we will have no problems catching them...glass shad raps are working great for me, but ghost minnows would be ideal.
