Boston Bob,

I like the spunk but I would go completely crazy if I could not fish and then aweful things could happen.
If we continue down this road it goes nowhere.
I guess we should consider ourselves lucky
that we have such a highclass problem.
two many fish? alot of small and large some
people just need to $$&^$$#&
The bottom line is that this lake has improved
a great deal in the last 4 years and you do have a legit chance of catching a nice fish
on any trip!
I wish everyone who wants learn the lake and save time and money would just call Don the Angler,John Varner or myself and take a trip on a week day,,,,
everyone have a great week

If I gave up on a lake and said it was in trouble after I had a bad trip,....lets see the lakes I would not fish anymore.

Benbrook, Whitney, Eagle Mountain, Hubbard, Richland Chambers(yeah it happens there), Cedar Creek(yep, happens there too), Possum Kingdom, Granbury, Tradinghouse, Aquilla, Purtis Creek, Fork, Texoma,Proctor, every one of the bays on the lower and middle coast.

Come on, not every angler out there is catching 25 fish each time out and taking them home....Though was is the limit that high? Cause the lakes will sustain it and the fish population will as well. Sandbass reproduce well and fast, grow to legal size, 10 inches first year. I fished sommerville when it was 12 inch minimum and we caught hundreds of 10 and 11 inch fish.... Maybe a spot will die out and another spot will become active. Follow the bait,,,it is possible to be on a school of nothing but fish under 10 inches...I have had it several times on Proctor, Richland Chambers, Eagle Mountain and Benbrook....then I had to loo to find bigger fish. Personally, the lake is getting some good attention and it is not due to cigar boats, recreation boats, fatalities, etc...it is due to the fishing that is good.

Is the lake in Trouble? Doubt it. Concerned about kids....sure, you bet, but more concerned with the costs of their hunting and fishing in the future, not the fish that are in the lake, that will be dead by the time they are old.

Just out of curisoity I made a quick pass through the TP&W stocking reports to see how they had stocked Lewisville for Hybrid and Striper over the years.

Hybrid were stocked in the 1980s in 1983 and 1988

Then Striper were stocked in the 1990s in all years from 1989 thru 1998

Then Hybrid have been stocked all years from 2000 to present.

The Hybrid fishing at Lewisville in the 1980s was excellent with the fish getting well above 12lb by 1988\1989. We actually saw some much larger than that, and it was fun fishing. Then one day in late 1989\1990 the lake turned over and there were lots (100s maybe 1000s) of big fish (Hybrid) floating belly up. It did not seem to effect the smaller fish, but after that large Hybrid were virtually non-existant.

For what ever reason TP&W then stocked Striper, it was good fishing, but nothing to compare with the Hybrids of the late 1980s. I believe that some of the Stipers are still active in the lake. I was into Striper schools twice last year, both times in the summer, in deep water. The fish caught were in the 12lb range, but finding them was pure accident.

With the growth patterns of the Hybrid we should be consistantly seeing some 12lb+ by the end of this season as long as the condition of the lake holds up. Water level does not seem to matter to the fish as long as the lake stays above 507 or so.

I think the primary thing we can do to preserve the work done by TP&W for us is to educate people to recognize the difference between small Hybrid and Sand Bass\White Bass. We need to leave the small Hybs in the lake so they can get big..........and they will.

Good Fishing
