Have any of you fellas ever used the jet divers for trolling and are they even worth it?

They have worked for me, I use the 30 ft or so model, and have caught sandies ect. I think the hell pet works a little better as when i fish with my son he usually out fishes me. I think the flash of a hellbender [crome] excites the fish and you get more strikes on a trailer that resembles the size or a little smaller, of the shad they ae feeding on.

I found this site. It has pics and descriptions of Pink Lady's, Jet Divers, Deep Six, and several other divers. Pretty informative.

I will tell you what I find that works best. I think those jet divers are fine, but if you are a trolling guy, I would use the precision trolling guide to figure out the normal dive curves for your cranks and fish them accordingly. Now if you are a bait fisherman, I would get lead core line and fish the right depth with a 1.8 or so speed.

A troller needs (wants) good rod holders/track (I have the pursuit ones), reels with line counters (I like the Diawa Sealines), Planer boards (Off Shore), Planer board rods (I use Cabelas innerflow), good sonar to track on the contour (I have a Hummingbird 788ci with Nav chip), most importantly a bow trolling motor that will track automatically (I have the MK AP Copilot) they have even better ones now, but this one does the trick. If your big motor is too big to slow down to 1.3 or so, you will need a kicker motor.

Confessions of a Troller for stripers at Elephant Butte NM. It is not a cheap deal for sure, I left off the whole live bait tanks for shad, which is another expense. We have been using bluegill for bait and the stripers here think they are like chocolate cake.

Yes I started off with a jet diver, precision trolling book and cranks and u-rigs for a few years. Dead sticking live bait. The above way I outlined works well.

nice thread karpbuster

not long ago we had a guest who fishes the great lakes and that is how he explained his techniques to us...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Thanks Kody's papa ... I learned a lot of it from a guide at EB originally from Green Bay Wisconsin (Lake Erie troller) and the rest from a guy that also was under the same guide's schoolin, he has spent the time dialing it in.

Trolling is a commitment and if you crave the big striper action it works, most guides here though use the dead stick with live bait. I have started working on crappie fishing at EB, I have a lot to learn. I hope to have a house in East Texas soon, so I can start fishing for LMB and crappie. The lake I will be fishing most, Sam Rayburn, doesn't have stripers I guess. I will have to venture off to Texhoma every now and then for a striper fix.
