I'm an addict. I fished the Medina this morning around Pipe Creek and caught about a dozen flatfish and 2 Guadalupe bass. I have NEVER had that much fun catching fish, and I never thought that I would say this, but it may be as fun as duck hunting(and as my name screen name states, I'm a big duck hunter). Fishing in that clear water and catching those little fish was absolutely amazing. I seem to have had some sort of "casting epihany(sp?)" and was tossing some 60 footers. I'm not going to lie, it was about the best feeling ever to see those loops just un-fold out there like it's supposed to.

I've got a few photos. I'll post them tomorrow night when I get back home. Going to hit up a different spot in the morning.

Every once in a while you'll want to clean the dust off your spinning and baitcasting gear. Just to keep it... you know, serviceable while you are fly fishing for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

You think that this addiction is bad, wait until you start tying your own flies - and to top it off, catch your first fish on a fly you tied on your own.

Don't dread it. Just go get yourself a DanVise, some tools (get two bobbins, you'll want them), a couple bucktails, a few packages of marabou, some hackle, a bunch of chenille, hooks in assorted sizes and lengths, a mess o' popper bodies if that's your thing, some prismacolor markers, fly foam, head cement, zap-a-gap, sally's hard-as-nails, a few boxes to keep it all organized, a table, beads, cones, mylar tubing, lead wire, lots of thread, a few more bucktails, marabou in some different colors, a couple of books and videos, some deer hair patches, might as well throw in some moose mane because why not, zonker strips, rubber leg material, flash, a good light and maybe a magnifier, some lead eyes, bead chain, glass beads, fly propellers, and a roadkill squirrel tail.

There's really no sense in fighting it.

Dam jack that there is a mighty fine list.
Pretty complete for the WW crowd.

Sounds simple really.

So I hit up another hole this morning. The wife tagged along and sat in the river for a little while and fished with my micro spinning rod for an even shorter time. Had a blast again. It's un-believable how much fun this is. On the way home, We( I ) had to stop at Cabela's. I drooled over fly rods for a short time and decided that I need a 7'6" or 8' 2 or 3wt(I like the 3wt feel better) and a 9-ish foot 8-10wt for the bass-fish. I REALLY like the sage bass rods, but the TFO $149 rods were pretty nice too grin However, it looks like the Three Forks rods are hard to beat for 50 bucks(and they look pretty good as well). I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow for your viewing pleasure.

If you're lusting after a bass stick, don't forget the TFO Mini Mag. smile

I cast the Sage Bass rod a few times on my Hill Country excursion last week ... that thing is STOUT. Doesn't really flex much. I get the feeling it's more of a specialty tool. Whereas my TFO is more of a jack of all trades.

Anyway, that Sage doesn't whip around too much. What's the rationale behind that?

J.
