My boat has been in the lake for 3 months...We use it almost every weekend... We pulled it out yesterday and there was a ring of moss/[censored] on the bottom up to waterline. I took it to carwash and got the biggest part of it off but there is still residue on it... what do you use to get this off? (besides a lot of elbow grease..lol)any ideas helpful..
thanks in advance,
Mike

Try white vinegar! My wife showed me that trick years ago. Mix it with water (two parts vinegar, one part water) in a spray bottle and spray the stains and let it sit about 20 min. Then get a scrubbie sponge, soak it with vinegar water and scrub (re-spray as you go). It's easy.

I use a product called NuHull. You can find it direct from the company. http://www.nuhull.com/?gclid=CIjIlsjdh6MCFQ9jswod8U43aQ

You can also use toilet bowl cleaner. Be careful with both, they have an acid base I believe. Wash the bumpers thoroughly or over the long term they will be damaged.

I've used the Nuhull and had very good experience with it.
Good Luck

Bob
I appreciate the TFF.

The tire cleaner at carwashes does real good but i think it will strip whatever wax is on the surface of whatever it is that you use it on.

Try a magic eraser, see how that works for you.

I tried the vinegar and water....although I didnt use a scrub pad. ( sorry...but I aint scratching up my boat!). Didnt do squat using a terry cloth towel. I aint into elbow grease in 95 degree temps. I'll talk to my chemist friend about it and get back to you. Surely he knows something that will dissolve it without harming the finish.

I might ask him about the Lysol brand bathroom cleaner I used on my fiberglass tub. It works wonders with no scrubbing in the bath tub.

I use CLR, calcium-lime-rust remover on everything. You can find it at wally-world. Not the greatest smell, but I have not found a stain that it won't remove.

Use a product called Davis Fiberglass Stain Remover. Its in a clear container and is a blue gel. I think academy recently started carrying it, but bass pro and of course online will have it. All you have to do is put it on a towel and rub it on, let it sit for a few minutes and spray off. Best stuff for a waterline ive used.

be careful with Magic Eraser. It does a good job but what it really is is a very fine sandpaper like material and can/will leave very fine scratches

DEFINATELY NO TOILET BOWL CLEANERS!!!! Stay with fiberglass stain removers- try Academy, think I saw them there! I'd be leary of CLR too! The fiberglass stain removers are a little pricier than the cleaning chemicals, but ALOT cheaper than ruining your boat!

Be careful about leaving your boat in the water for a long time. Over an extended time, bottom osmosis can cause bubbles to form in the gelcoat and you will need an expensive bottom job. Don't ask me how I know. Doh...
