I know the max diameter for cast nets on Texas lakes is 14' (7' radius), but I've heard the limit is larger (maybe 8'?) on Oklahoma lakes. On Texoma, which state regulation rules? Does it depend on which side of the Red River channel your own?
Thanks in advance.

matt, yes it does depend where on the lake you are. Texas side is a 7'max and I believe the bad side is 10'. I have heard that texas game wardens are pretty stern with people using nets bigger than 7'. at least with the guides. I have heard stories where a guy was using a 7' net that had stretched and the game warden made him lay it out and measured it at just slightly stretched over 7'. needless to say he got himself a little fine.

Do you think I need to bring my bait tank for shad for this weekend? I can do it,but will need to reorganize my live bait rods or downsize my reels to 5500 c=4s instead of 6500 c4s that way we can change them out to cast on my bass pro cranking sticks instead of trying to cast a 6500 on an BWC ugly stick

Steve, Guys have been catching using live shad as well as sassy's . It's really a [censored] shoot right now. Either way has been working . My best answer to your question... depends on what your comfortable with because i think you'll be able to get fish either way .

Well I will come loaded for BEAR then. Bring out all the arsenal. I am comortable with just about anything. Should I bring downriggers or not? That is the other question. Down here we use perch this time of year as well and it is quite effective or it is for me. Wondering how it is up there? I can get perch easily and keep them in my 15 gallon tank on my boat. Also, I hear of people catching them on large shiners. I have used them at Whitney once and did fair with them. I challenged a buddy on it and that is what we fished with and caught fish that day,so I ate crow. Would they work up there? I am fired up about the trip, even though I am leaving town on my 5th wedding anniversary! But I got a pass to go as she was orginally going out of town as a chaparone on a school trip, but it got cancelled and the tournament was planned while i thought she was going to be gone. Oh yeah, do not think it will not cost me. I am going out today to buy her some anniversary presents!

Mister Bradbury! Just a reminder that all contestants are going to be searched by Homeland Security and those Lake Whitney styled shad colored Hand Grenades are not allowed ...during Tournament Hours.... unless you are driving a "Texoma Guide Association Approved Falcon Guide Boat" and have at least 6 drunks on board! LOLOLOL!!! OBTW the TGA approved model grenades are made with C4 and not the standard wimpy blackpowder stuff...and the little 12v Telephone Zappers really need to be upgraded to at least 36v's to overcome the higher levels of BS that is found is such abundant quantity along the Mighty Red River...
And Welcome to Texoma Ocean to one and all! Lets the games begin.....
Please be sure to update your Guides License with the "TGA" for a Waiver for the little SeaPro but I'm sure Ya'll will do just fine unless the wind blows anything over 15 to 20 and then you'll gain a new lack respect for the weather guesser's parentage since it is common to ADD those two number together at Texoma!!!! ..."and they call the Wind ...Mariah... Mariah" as the song goes for all the Geezers out there old enough to remember the Kingston Trio. Jeez I must be getting OLD. Ya'll stay dry now!! Ron
Steve - wait till you see one of the 28' Silver Dollar guide boats loaded with "relaxed and lubricated clients" go blowing down the lake with his 454 WOT and his Silent Choice wide open in 3 & 4 footers while you are pounding your backside to keep on plane ....and less than 30-40 feet off your beam!!! Ya'll come!
Older Than Dirt...and trying To STAY That Way
