Hello,
The wife and I are going down to Houston to see the folks. We thought we would bring the boat and the two of us fish an area lake one day. Any suggestions would be appreciated as to the best lake.
We will be down there during the week so boat traffic shoudnt be an issue. We thought of Lake Conroe or Livingston but have never been to any of these lakes.
Largemouth is our preference, but this time of the year etc. we just want to fish and check out some different water. Thanks,
Jim

If you are staying west of 45 and South of the Woodlands, I would take a trip to Fayette (1 1/2 hours) or Gibbons (about an hour). Conroe or Lake Raven (Huntsville State Park) if you are staying east of 45.
Good luck.

Thanks Bass Junkie. Was not aware of those lakes. Let me do some checking to see what is closest. Do you have a prefernce to Conroe or Raven? I looked at Raven on the web. It looks nice.

If you want some options, Livingston has some giant striper in it, lots of sandies, crappie, and of course, Blacks...Raven might be tough in this heat..there is a little known res in Houston called Sheldon Reservoir. Look it up..Haven't been in 10 years, but it was a hidden jewel back then, and senko, fluke, topwater was awesome. Not sure about now.. Maybe some others know.

Lot of low-lifes around the Sheldon area. Don't leave any valuables in your vehicle.
