New to Eagle Mountain & spending more time and gas trying to find some action for the kids than I can afford.
I will likely book THE KING**DAVE EVERITT** for a teaching trip in the future, but would appreciate any pointers until then.
I am not familliar with the names of areas, but have been up and down the lake quite a bit. Bait info would be great. Kids love the sandies and crappie, and I have been taking all the neighborhood kids but have been making a lot of dry runs. Bit disappointing when trying introduce kids to outdoors. So important to get them away from TV and play stations. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any help. Mike

Fish humps and flats. Good lake map will show you most of them. H/P has been the ticket for us for about a month now. Drag it in 12- 20' of water on flats and humps. Fish are moving a lot seeking DO ( disolved oxygen). Slab bite has been poor to fair. More wind, better slab bite. Topwater now and then. We have been using little georges for bigger fish. Fished the afternoon shift yesterday for the first time since spring. Wind was tough. Slab bite was very good. Fished an area that I haven't fished in years. They were stacked up like cordwood with lots of bait. Caught blacks and cats mixed with the sandies. Topwater has been off and on. They can pop up anywhere & anytime tho. H/P would be my choice for now for the kids. Hope this helps a bit. Happy to help in the future. I'm not a king. Just an old peasant with grey hair wink .

My son and I got out this morning and trolled a Hell-Pet for a couple of hours. We boated about 30 white bass and a half dozen or so largemouths, and one channel cat. No big fish, but a lot of fun anyway.

We caught most of our fish off the point at the west end of the rip rap dam. We were catching them quite a bit farther out in the lake than I expected.

Besides the Hell-Pet, we trolled a regular Bomber plug that runs about 8 feet deep, caught a few on it too. The Bomber model A plugs were my favorite trolling lure when I lived up in Kansas and we fished for white bass and walleyes. The lakes up there aren't quite as deep as EM.

We tried a few other areas and didn't do too well anyplace else. I've got a lot to learn too!

If you have a Lowrance GPS they have the free enhanced map of Eagle Mountain available for download. It has some good detail. I don't usually go to Eagle Mountain but the map looked pretty helpful if you have a compatable GPS.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!

I have been out a couple of times this week and have done well on schooling fish south of the island. Just look for surfacing fish and drift through them. We have only been using medium sized chrome and blue rattle traps and just tearing them up. The fishing has been good from about 7:30 am to about 9:00 am and then the schooling has stopped. Been averaging about 50 caught in that hour and a half window. Hope the info helps. flag

We went back out this evening, my son counted and we got 32 fish tonight, all white bass. 2 were very nice fish, probably around 3 pounds.

We got into some schooling fish that were surfacing. Tried casting to them, no luck. But we could drag the Hell-Pets thru the school and both hook up every time.

I think I got my last hell pet set at Bass Pro Shop. Also, it has been a while but I did get a set at Sports Authority/Oshmans once. I hear that Acadamy has the fixens I hardly ever go there so I can be positive. People have also said that Wal Mart has them but I have yet to go to a Wally world with them. I have never seen them at Cabela's either.

Good Luck.

Forgot. You might try the new west marine in Lake Worth.

Academy has the makins', if they aren't sold out. They even sell a Hellbender without hooks. They have a knock off version of the #13 pet spoon too, but the ring has sharp edges that can cut the line if you're not careful where and how you tie them on.
