Unfortunately another accident on Lewisville claims the life of a boater when he ran his boat on a point of land that is normally submerged. I am amazed everytime I am on the lake watching the "go fast" Boats tearing through all parts of the lake. Please be careful out there!

Is it on the news anywhere? How did the man lose his life was he jettisoned from the craft? Sad really sad.

One of the news articles insinuated that it was the lake level that was to blame. It is so unfortunate the men perisished in the accident but I do not feel it is the lake's low water level that is at fault. I for one am not familiar with Lake Lewisville and have always used extreme caution due to the reports many of you post concerning low water levels. So many of these pleasure boaters take things for granted on the water that incidents like this occur. It is a miracle that more do not take place as many of you know how bad the traffic can get on Lewisville. All I can say is my condolences to the family.

He must have been unfamiliar with the lake. Normally the folks that go from Pier 121 over to Sneakys know about that sandbar that jets out into the lake. Its a terrible tradegy for his family . I dont think it was the lakes fault. I know that when it gets dark out there, you really have to know where you are and watch what you are doing. Did they ever say if he had been drinking?

It has be the point between the 121 cut and pier 121. There is a long sand bar that extends way past the point. During the day if you are watching, you can see the shallow brown underwater structure. There is or was a shallow water bouy there but it's easy to miss.

One thing I learned as a new boater years ago is to use the depth alarm on my fishfinder to go off when I am in 12 feet of water. This gives me enough time to slow down and turn the boat when I am approaching shallow water. It has saved me a couple of times on that very same point.

The truth is that it takes just as much skill, if not more, considering the variables, to operate a boat as it does to operate a vehicle on the road. It is just amazing to me that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. My condolences go out to the family(s) involved but we all know and have seen the consequences of the people that buy that runabout and spend their time running up and down the lake as fast as they can go. Responible boating is a learned skill.
