I wouldn't eat a fish that old; probably filled with toxins, especially from the lower Mississippi. I'd sooner eat one of the asian carp.
Awesome big fish, though!
The way more people are learning more about catching these behemoths, using electronics, etc. I would think that the record would/could be broken again in the next few years.

You guys or should I say GIRLS complaining about the fish being found dead and floating in the lake, and they need to take a lie detector test need to take it easy. I think that all comes from JEALOUSY! I think the people who deal with certifying world class fish know what they are doing and it will be taken care of.

That is a monster fish.
I'm sorry, but if it comes down to the fish dieing or getting it certified, I'm letting the fish go. I would love to have a record like that but I would much rather have the fish alive and back in its habitat. I would have to agree with this, I think it was a needless death. All and all it was a cool picture and brought some smiles. But they just killed history..

Some of us are just sad the fish is dead. It would have been nice to keep that guy alive. I care less if they took a lie detector test myself. But its just sad that people didnt educate themselves on where the scales were and how to keep it alive. I watch plenty of marine bioligists on tv that catch even bigger fish and they do a good job of preserving the health of the fish. I dunno, its just sad. But I am happy for the angler!

Even Splash died after a while in the tank. I don't think cats that big do well in captivity unless someone like Sea World was keeping it, then it would probably kill a trainer.

What puzzles me is...........there was no life to that fish whatsoever......none. Also, the fish looked like rigor mortis was in an advanced stage.....all "stiff" and long-dead looking. I found a floater bass in the teens department that had that same look. Just wondering. I don't trust nothing......I don't believe anybody. I would make Doubting Thomas look like a pre-schooler waiting for his morning nutrition break. Them old boys who fish those areas aren't out there with digital cameras and such. They take a while to get back to the scales after the catch and maybe even longer for people to decide to take photos. That old boy in the pic with the cigarette in his mouth don't look like no forum regular.

Simply unbelievable. Just when you thought you saw it all. What a fantastic catch. Wounder what kind of fight it put up. It would have been nice if a release was possible but I would have to agree that a fish that big would be hard to keep alive while trying to locate a scale, etc. You would almost need a swimming pool to keep it in after the catch.

yeah if that would have been "ME" that caught that big ole fish, i guarantee things would have been done in a more PC fashion ... we may have to consider lessons in CPR etiquette as a prerequisite to getting a fishing license
we need to step up & take "CONTROL"

I bet Texoma has hundreds of blues bigger than that,I takes a real cat man to land something that big. the avrage joe out on the lake drinkin beer and fishing with a zebco 33 wouldnt have a chance at getting a fish weighing more than 40 lbs in their boat
