could someone give me some help with catfishing on lake ivie? i have always been a bass fisherman and now i want to start catfishing and white bass fishing. i have already made about 10 jug lines and 10 drifting jug lines, soured up some milo and bought range cubes, i also order some of the team catfish fiber punch bait and secret 7 dip bait for slip bobber fishing, what i am looking for help on is this, what depths and structure should i be looking for and fishing with my rod and reel rigs? what should i be looking for when setting out jug lines or drifting jug lines and what bait should i use on them, and at what depth or if anyone knows of a few spots and would not mind giving up one or two?

thanks

I don't know ivie but I do really well w/ jug lines on a few different lakes and I always use the same tactics. I use live bait taken from the natural forage base. Most of the time this means small, live bluegills or shad 1" - 4" in size. I set my lines in open water that is near structure such as submerged trees or brushpiles. I don't get too close to the structure but close enough to be in hunting range for a fish that hangs out in it. Most of the time I'm in 12' to 20' of water w/ my bait about 2' to 6' off the bottom.
I never put more than 2 hooks per jug line and I use jugs weighted w/ a brick so it is nice and heavy and will take a real big fish to haul it very far. I use 5/0 circle hooks and I lip hook my bait fish.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

Mark Ray has good advise. for weights I use styrofoam coffee cups filled with cement. Just loop a wire to tie to, put in the cup with the loop just sticking above the cup, poor cement and when it sets you have a cheap but very good weight for jug lines.
