How does it mount? Is that the 1197 Humminbird?

Mounts with holes on the sides where the knobs attach to the bracket.
That is the 1197 Humminbird.

seems like that would be a piece of cake to fabricate, bend a piece of sheet metal in 2 places, drill 2 holes, round the corners off and bolt it on. I might make one for my 480.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

It looks more like corrugated plastic. Should be easy to make.

Raptor Fish Technologies makes them for hds and humminbird. I one have on each unit and it makes a BIG difference. These are held on with velcro strips. Have had mine for 4 months and have not lost one yet!

if its plastic it could be heated up with a heat gun and bent to desired shape.

I really like mine, the 997 shield should fit the 898...I think the 898, 997, 998 have the same housing...
It does help a lot when the sun is anywhere but behind you shining directly on the screen...If it is up in the sky you get a shaded effect depending on the angle...
I talked to a friend the other day on the water that made one of these for his 1197...It looked good so I asked him if he was going to start making them for sale and he said that it took him about a week to make it fit right so no he wasn't...
They are plastic and good luck, you will save yourself 10-15 bucks...

Have had mine for 4 months and have not lost one yet! I have one from Raptor also and really like it. It stays on at 80mph on land and 55mph on water. Sure helps. Raptor Cap
