Would like to hear comments on braid line. Pros and cons and colors used. For use on sand bass and hybrids. Thanks Johnny

I like to use it for crappie but for sandies I seem to have trouble with is as it knots up and I cannot tie lures as fast with it. But you lose less fish and lures with it taht is for certain.

I use Power Pro on all my baitcasters for sandies and hybrids. Whether I'm slabbing or using swim baits. You can feel them if they hit it on the fall alot better than mono. Plus if you are fishing aroung trees or other structure you can horse them out better. I do use a 5 ft. leader of flouroclear with slabs. That helps the slab from getting tangled in the line. As for knots the only knot you need to tie with it is a palomar knot. my .02 cents

I am a big fan of braid. Hook set is better, if hung up I can usually get my lure out. Doesn't break down or nick like mono and I can cast it better. I do use a leader(YOZURI) when slabbing. I did buy some Spiderwire Fusion today on clearance at BPS for 3.99 it is supposed to be a cross between mono and braid. I tried to look it up on Spiderwire's website--not there, so I called them and they said it was discontinued because of a patent infringement with their divsion that make bullet proof vests. Kinda crazy. Anyone that hasn'tused flourocarbon (like YoZuri Hybrid) I highly recommend it. Very strong and best casting line I have ever used.

Swamp Donkey, I agree on the sensativity of the braid, but what do you tie the leader to the line with, I am looking for a simple way to do that.

In general, braid lasts much longer than mono with no memory. The longer life span doesn't fully offset the added cost of braid but it does save you time with respooling. In a situation where feeling the bite is important, like vertical fishing with a jig or minnnow, braid is hard to beat. With light weight <10# braid and a decent graphite rod you can feel the slightest nibble by a fish. With heavy weight >50# braid you will not lose lures or fish unless you decide to cut the line. Fishing with something in the middle might be a good trade off.
Keep in mind braid is opaque. If the fish seem shy I'd use a long mono or a fluoro leader. There are some lures, such as Little Georges, where I have found that I have to use a leader to avoid tangles. I prefer the hi-vis colors. With fast action fishing or when the bite comes easy I prefer mono as ease of use is the greatest contributor to more fish.

I use Power Pro for trolling or straight down fishing, with a florocarbon leader. Mono for everything else.

slabnshad, I use an albright knot or a double uni-knot. I mostly use the double uni-knot. Its reel easy to tie, not a lot of bulk to it, and it is strong.

I use braid when fishing for sandies as well. I run a 6 foot leader of flouro or mono to help reduce the tangles and almost always use the double uni knot.

I use braid on all my rigs. Pros: Stronger More sensitive Last longer No memory Smaller diameter
Cons: Due to its limpness, it has a tendency to wrap around the rod tip Will knot up on spinning rigs After the exterior coating wears off, it looks much larger, like a rope in the water More expensive
To me, the pros outweigh the cons. I like to use a fluorocarbon leader which helps reduce visibility. I learned that from Swamp Donkey. I use an albright knot to join the two lines.

On open-face bail-type reels, you can cast braided line much further than mono, if distance is what you want. Keep some leather gloves in the boat, cause if you get a snag and have to break the line, it will cut you to the bone without gloves.

I tried braided lines several times but cannot get used to it. It is very expensive, fades quickly to a pale color, backlashes too much on baitcasters and is impossable on spinning rods. It is very tough and you can lift a log off the bottom with the stuff but I still just don't like it. I all ways end up taking to stuff off and relacing it with mono.
In freshwater I fish only for whites and crappie I use strictly 10lb mono. I use Brekley big game, it's cheap and I've never had a fish break it.
I might consider braided line if fished black bass in the jungle on Choke Canyon.
