Call a fishing pier and they say oh yea everyone is CATCHING lots of trout and drum, with an occassional redfish. Pull up @ the pier less than 1 hour later and only a 3 people on pier and 2 gentlemen leaving and ask them @ fishing, they respond HUH did not catch a thing, but heat stroke, Well they were fishing with dead shrimp, I just spent $17.00 on LIVE, so yea lets give it a try, Tide Moving, and all NOTTA NOTTA NUTTIN OH and forgot paid to get on pier.

The pier folks do seem to strech the truth a "little" when asked if anyone is catching anything. They know if they can just get you out there, you will probably go ahead and give it a try. I have done lots of pier fishing and this pretty much seems to be the standard practice.

Yes brother it has happened to many times, but I stress that I was very uninformed as to what was really going on. First off people working or owning a fish pier know that there are alot of family and tourist that come to this place for one thing and thats to fish and families are probably the most uninformed because the parents are willing to do anything to show their kids a good time. Fathers will go to extreme lengths to hook into a big fish and look down at their son or daughter and just know they just wowed them and they are thinking how can I do what my pops just did. The parent will feel as if they paid alot to take a gamble and try something but the wow on their kids faces will be worth it all. So the pier takes advantages of that because they already make their little money off the informed regulars but the non-locals is bonus cuz they will spend ridiculous amounts of money on things they can go down the road and buy for half price at academy or somewhere else it actually happened to me this weekend with a ruler sticker form my rod 3.99 at baitshop 1.00 at academy but if your kid likes it you their is no cheaper option so you buy it to see them smile but the baitshop is looking at you like yes got another one. Plain and simple its a business and they are trying to keep themselves afloat they same way we try to keep our everyday lives afloat so yea its messed up but when you think bout if you know better before you do it but you still choose to its really our faults for letting them win cuz if we put a little effort into it we could do the things they do for us for free but they just make it easier so we pay cuz it makes it one crucial step easier to doing what we love and thats fish cuz there is no guarantee you will catch the bait you are sought out for but chances are the bait stand has them couped up readay for you to go without having to get your hands dirty. Went out this weekend brothers didnt do great hooked alot of fish but knots and swivels and all the small what nots were not performing in my favor so lost alot but watched my little brothers fight for the traditional most fish copetition for the weekend so it was all worth it and learned alot bout corky lures and topwaters and about the spotted seatrout species so all in all was a good weekend and as a owner of a construction company gave me a good release that i came down here for to get away from the numbers and situations for a little bit. Wish yall tight lines and bent rods have fun out there guys.

You should find your english teacher and punch him/her in the mouth as hard as possible.

The only thing dumber than a fish is a fisherman.

Pier charges money for access. So if they tell everyone that calls to ask what you asked, what do you think their answer will be? Keeping in mind that they are hoping that you'll show up (based on their report) to pay the entry fee, maybe buy some ice, bait, food/drink and tackle.

The big party boats (cattle boats as I call 'em) are no better. Every published report they give says that their fishermen "caught limits of......" Whether it's true or not is irrelevant. It's the old carrot in front of the donkey trick.

They depend on you to spend money so they can make money. Do you really think they'd tell you, "No fish here. Go someplace else". Not in a million years.

In this case fish serve as the carrot and you filled the roll of donkey.

Don't trust those reports.
