Not!
I asked Oklahoma Dept of Wildlife what the minimum weight would be to qualify for a State Record. Though there was one on their State Record list in the past, none is currently listed now. Response was, "We do not keep records for bowfins". Oklahoma obviously has no appreciation for this fish.

Bias runs deep against many of our native fishes: gar, buffalo and other suckers, bullhead, bowfin, etc. Some people just don't get it. All fish are gamefish!

Why do all the trees in Texas lean towards the north? Because Oklahoma sucks

Bah! Oklahoma. Leave it to Oklahoma's wildlife department to completely ignore a NATIVE fish.
Way to promote your natural and native resources, Oklahoma.
This is the same state that allows snagging Paddlefish on one side of the river, where here in Texas our wildlife department has realized they're getting to be endangered in that stretch.
All I can say is, good work Oklahoma. Hope they read this, and change their ways, but they won't.
Another good thing about Texas!

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

Oklahoma promotes snagging. They are proud of it. It is a big deal here. They have state run cleaning stations where they will clean the paddlefish in return the harvest the eggs to be sold as caviar. However they do restock paddlefish. Bowfishing is very popular with several tournaments. Including kids tournaments. There is even a big event every year for catfish noodling in Norman. It is like a carnival. Carp and other roughfish are disrespected here and you will find them thrown out on the bank even in the city park. However Dave from BCT and the local flyfishing club have a carp fishing tournament for kids every year. Trying to change the views of the public.

That's always a nice thing to find on the bank of your local city park lake LOL.

Some of the fishing and wildlife standards/regulations in Oklahoma are just idiotic.
