The mighty hell/pet ruled the 309 flats Monday morning, May 9th, catching more sand bass than we could shake a stick at. We were also fortunate enough to land three hybrids to 5 1/2 pounds. Two of them hit the bigger #13 pet spoon up front which seemed odd to us because we usually see them hit the smaller #12 that we normally tie on the back. We also found it curious that all three hybrids bit the setup with the chrome/blue hellbender (mine, haha) and not the solid chrome hellbender. See more pics at my site.

Were you trolling the entire time or did you get some fish surfacing?
RC is getting to be one of the better hybrid lakes around....soon it will be one of the best.

right before 7 for sure...then 7 on if you have cloud cover......still good to see so many birds around, though they will move out soon.....just look along the shores and coves you might like what you see. With that said,,I would get on the water no later then 6:30 am.

There was a fairly good chop on the water and it was difficult to see any schooling activity. Even the birds hard a hard time finding them and an even harder time staying on them when they did. Thanks for the report the other day. I emailed it to my fishin bud that lives in fairfield and he was easily talked into hunting the hybrids when he saw those pictures. We've had some luck with them the past couple of summers and figure that such good results this early in the season will translate into some great fishing this summer. It is really exciting to use a reel with a clacker. When a hybrid hits it and the reel starts screaming it is very thrilling. I'd love to capture the moment on video, with the reel screaming, everybody whooping and hollering and the pole bent in half.
