Tying at work, during my lunchtime of course, and I need some fresh ideas.

I am gonna troll the various sites but thought I'd ask you guys what you have been up to as well.

I was gonna dig up your lunchtime thread to post this beauty - a Guadalupe Green in black:

Rats! There is that red X again. (looks much better than the fly I had to put out with the trash.) wink

I prefer a bead-head variation with a dubbed body. No need to worry about leaving enough room ahead of the bead chain eyes for that final wrap of maribou rope.

Just my take on having more fun with this stuff.

How about small crease flies? I am going to try some chenille dubbing brush material for bait fish patterns. (palmered on...should be easy)

That is where I get confused. Are they Guadalupe Greens in Rust, or Guadalupe Rustys?

You got my attention when you asked for simple flies. Since you already found the marabou, and remember where you put it, how about tying some Beavers Bend Buggers? I always tie them on a size 14 or 16 hook. Start by tying on a gold bead and then a tail of marabou. Next comes a body dubbed of rabbit and tie it off. Yep. it is that simple. I tie most of them in olive or black, but sometimes the only ones that catch fish are in purple. Can't find any packets of purple rabbit dubbing, simply get out the puple zonker strips and cut some off for the dubbing. Yes that is right...it dosen't even call for any hackle.

Brim love them as much as trout do.

Have fun with this stuff.

I tied something like that today. A black tail, and UV black ICE Dub looks purplish. A little redish hackle is like strawberry jam to top it off.

Mike's Mohair Leech catches just about everything with fins and gills.

Thread Jig

Micro-jig head in whatever size you like
3/0 thread in white, pink, olive, and black
Head cement

Start thread behind jig head.

Advance thread to bend of hook.

Build taper of thread skinny end @ hook bend to fat end behind jig head.

Whip finish.

Cement.

They don't get any easier than that! And they will catch Bream in streams with some current like you wouldn't believe, and the occasional Bass. They also catch trout well.
