Get a Mercury. I'd rather have a 3.5hp Mercury that a 5hp Briggs and Stratton. I'm on my second small Mercury outboard and I think they are worth the extra money.

I'd be afraid of one of those thangs. Appear to be very fragile. No resale value. You could look for a good used name brand motor and come out better.

I've got to add to the negativity on the motor. Tons get returned, no matter where they are purchased from.
I have nothing against Briggs and Stratton, as long as it's on a lawn mower.................

Stay away from Briggs and Stratton- their lawn mower motors arent very good and dont last very long.

I currently have one on my small pond boat. They are very loud and the vibration is very bad. It starts on the first pull but often times will shut down when you put it in gear. Also, it tends to bog down when trying to pull up a couple of skiers .

I would get an outboard motor company brand. Look at Academy.

I like mine. It starts on first pull and its easy to maintain. I have no problem with the Briggs motor.

Huh, I can't hear you! Briggs and Strattons are too loud and vibrate. Think about the best yard equipment, none of it is powered by Briggs anymore. Honda, Kohler etc.. Much quieter and more efficient. Give me a Yamaha or a Mercury.

Well, I went ahead and picked it up. Got a really good price on it so if nothing else I could sell it and make a little change. I plan on finding a square back aluminum canoe to hang it on.
