I'm putting together the clouser event at txfishes over the next few days, but I need your input on a couple things:
1: what is a clouser?
This could mean a lot of things to a lot of people.
I'm looking at calling anything with "bead type eyes" (either bead chain, or fancy lead eyes for you rich folks) toward the front, and at least some bucktail good enough for this contest.
Your input is huge here.
2: Species Points - anything missing you think you can catch (freshwater only)
Blue Tilapia 500 20 Smallmouth Buffalo 300 20 Common Carp 200 20 Rio Grande Cichlid 100 20 Longnose Gar 200 30 Red Drum 100 10 Freshwater Drum 70 5 Spotted Gar 100 10 Yellow Bullhead 80 5 Warmouth 30 2 Guadalupe Bass 50 2 Smallmouth Bass 50 2 Longear Sunfish 30 2 Redear Sunfish 30 2 Redbreasted Sunfish 30 2 Green Sunfish 30 1 Spotted Bass 30 2 Largemouth Bass 30 2 Bluegill 30 1 Black Crappie 30 1 White Crappie 30 1 Flathead Catfish 300 30 Channel Catfish 80 15 Blue Catfish 80 10 Black Bullhead 50 5 Bowfin 300 30 Striped Bass X White Bass 50 5 Yellow Bass 30 1 White Bass 30 1 Striped Bass 50 2 Alligator Gar 500 25 American Eel 500 25 White Amur 500 25 Bigmouth Buffalo 500 25 River Carpsucker 300 20 Spotted Sucker 300 20 Chain Pickerel 100 10 Redfin Pickerel 300 20
3) prizes
a) anyone you know that can supply prizes, have them contact me ( bret at txfishesdotcom).
b) what does everyone think about tossing in some flies for fun as well?

These txfishes contests are a lot of fun. They get me out of my normal fishing routine and make me fish in ways I normally wouldn't. I learn a lot and enjoy the competition.

I enjoy Txfishes contest as well, unfortunately I rarely throw this "clouser" you speak of.

Yeah, I know you don't, but some fish just don't eat poppers.

I say for the fly itself just keep it bucktail tied with any eyes and any size hook. plastic eyes might be allowed too for a very slow sinker for a different presentation. flash is ok, eyes do not have to be painted and can use bead chain.
fish- black buffalo gizzard shad goldeye oscar

Bret, How about including boundary waters. That would open up the Red River, Sabine River, Texoma, Caddo Lake, Toledo Bend, Falcon, Amistad. The lakes its sometimes hard to tell what side you are on, Denison Dam has always been gray with wether or not your fishing from the bank or in the water. Especially with the lakes, its still the same body of water no matter which state your floating in or which bank your standing on. For example guys wading or kayaking below Denison dam could then enter fish, where before they had to be on the bank for them to count. Flyfishing is a lot more fun from in or on the river than on the bank there.

This sounds like fun. I like the boundary water suggestion. I had lots of species a few years ago and realized they were caught in OK water.

another question... would spinner blades be allowed?
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I would consider the boundary waters TEXAS if your not on the oklahoma/mexico/louisiana bank, but that's my opinion. it would be hard for me to get anything if i didn't have my "HOME LAKE" Texoma

And, who wants to stand knee deep in dirty diapers???

You and I had talked about it before, and I agree.

I vote for
MUST have: dumbbells buck hair the top tied over the eyes
CAN have: flash paint/glue any thread any hook
but I'm probably going to sign up even with a looser set of guidelines for the clouser.
So 1' from the Oklahoma bank on Texoma counts?
