The fish don't even look healthy outta JP, pale, skinny, not very mean. Didn't the TPWD put out a report stating that there wasn't enough forage fish? Are they treating the lake to kill the grass every year now?

Reading the report the yankee gave us the link to would make you think there is plent of grass, but 1.6 percent is nill. The grass carp will take care of that.

That is an interesting report, but is dated "2005". Would love to see a current assessment.

The report is from 2005 and the lake has changed a little. Regarding the health of the fish, the fish I have caught this year were as fat and mean as any I have seen. The shad are bigger this year too, but the bigger bass have to be eating something else, there is no way they are that fat eating the little shad.
I agree that structure fishing is the way to go, although this year I have not caught them as deep as normal. Most around 12 feet, day and night, but I haven't been out since early June.

Plenty of white bass for them to eat! Were you out there Saturday evening? Saw someone in a red Skeeter running around the lake too.

Joe Pool is loaded with small fish but there are some big ones out there, too. You can do well with either one depending on what your goal is. Small fish are good tourney fish.Won a tourny about 3 weeks ago on unders at Pool. Not a huge weight compared to other lakes ave weights, but it won still the same. Slot lakes are a different animal, so you have to fish them differently. And every once in a while you hook a good one. I had a good day Sunday. I caught an 8.25lber. Biggest I've caught on Joe Pool.

I don't fish tourney's or anything. I just go out when I have some free time which usualy means I'm only on the water for a few hours, 4 at the most. I would just like to catch something decent and maybe worth taking a pic of.

I fished out at Joe Pool a couple weeks ago from the bank and was throwing at an old pier and caught a really good sized fish. measured right around 24 inches, im not sure how to post pics, but it was really nice. Then i went saturday for 5 hours and only caught 2 fish about 12 inches, that lake has always been really tough for me.

Win a tournament and all of a sudden you're Roland Martin... hehe. Nice fish dude. She might have come in handy next weekend... I think it's gonna take an over to win.

Yea, no doubt. I'll probably zero next week. I'd better hurry up and figure out an excuse, huh?! HaHa... Yea I think it'll take an over to win, too. Joe Pools got em, it's just getting them to bite. I sure miss the grass. Back in the good ol days.......
