I'm looking at a American Rodsmith David Fritts cranking rod at Academy Sports. It is glass rod 7ft. medium action, 3/8oz. to 1 1/4oz. lure weight.

Would this be a good rod for large crank baits such as DD22's?

Yes , I have that same rod and I love it , had a real bad habit of ripping the hooks out while fighting fish , I've caught a lot of 5 to 9 lbers on this rod since I switched and I haven't ripped the hooks out of one get , if you've never fished with a glass rod before you'll have to get use to the differance in the feel fish

Been a couple of years ago, but I tried one of the cranking rods from Academy and think it was the Rodsmith. My only problem was that after other graphite rods the glass rod seemed heavy. But I seem to feel my Falcon Lowrider seems much lighter than some of my other Rodsmith graphites in same length flex rods.

Not saying they are bad rods, just check the weight versus other rods.

I wish this rod had an exposed rod at the reel seat. It can't cost any more to make it this way.

I will keep looking. Allstar makes a cranking rod I saw also.

Thanks
