This lake is killing me.
Fishing shallow = small fish
fish deep = small fish
small bait = small fish
big bait = small fish

I haven't caught anything over 1 1/2 pounds in over a year.
I've hit almost every inch of this lake and throwed just about everything possible and catch nothing but small fish.
I even caught a perch on a small buzz bait last weekend, they just keep getting smaller and smaller.

Is anyone having any luck out there?
Just wondering if I suck that bad or if others are struggling.
I wouldn't bother going there if it wasn't 10 minutes from the house.

I have had the same luck out there for years people on here keep talking about the massive amonuts of fish they catch near the dam and near the marina and in walnut creek. But I have only caught 1 very small bass under the Lakeway bridge. I went out there a couple of weeks ago before dawn just because its close and nothing. I swore I will never go back to the Pool. The same with Lake Arlington

I might try it out there in the morning.

Want to try? I usually catch at least a couple decent fish.

I've lived by pool all my life and let me tell you it is a tough lake buddy.......a tough lake. The fishing used to be better when all the hydrilla was still around but it's been gone the past couple years and completely changed the lake. I don't care what anyone says, this lake sucks. Sure there are always going to be guys that say they wear them out but they probably are the same guys who put out their own brush piles that no one knows about.

I will say, you MUST MUST MUST fish structure on this lake. Drop offs, creeks, etc. Also you can try flipping trees in any of the creeks and coves on the walnut creek side of the lake. And if you happen to run across any little bit of hydrilla, fish the HE11 out it. There is still a little bit in the marina on the cedar hill side.

That's about all I got. If you're serious about catching some fish I would spend the extra time and gas and go somewhere else. Also, this lake is getting to the point of being exclusively a party lake. Rec boaters EVERYWHERE and they will cut you off a point without even batting an eye, so be careful out there.

Joe Pool is fishing good right now, and I have never put out a brushpile. I dont even fish them because I dont like staying hung up when I can catch them elsewhere. The fish are really stacked up in certain places out on deep structure. On JP small fish = good tournament fish. I've been catching lots of unders and good slots with an occasional over mixed in. Been spending all my time in 15'-30'. Find the schools on bottom with your graph. When they are feeding its on and they will bite multiple different presentations and techniques. Alot of it out there is a timing thing, so if you see them down there and they arent feeding go elsewhere and come back and check it later.

That 14 to 21 inch slot is a killer.Any big bass will be over 21.If the slot is to insure better fish populations, they could help out by some fish stocking.

They killed the grass, the fish are small, lake lice, wake boarders everywhere, washing machine, and lake is always pea green. NO THANKS. Lived right next to JP for 7 years, my advice get up early drive 2 hours go to FORK.

I was out there this morning. But I didn't get much chance to fish cause I had my boy with me. But if anyone snags a rod in Estes cove, let me know. My boy thought it would be a good brush pile.

I went today too. I caught some of the little guys but nothing special and some of my reliable places had nothing.

Well I guess I don't feel so bad since it seems no one else is dont much good out here either.
Sucks having a lake that close and it's not worth going to.
I just don't have time to take off for a whole day to hit a good lake right now.

Got that right! Maybe we can get a petition going to give JP some love from TPWD.

Never put out a brush pile and have caught fish there for years. Sure, it was better with the matted hydrilla, but the fish didn't leave. They are just relating to structure more and while they might be harder to catch at times, there's still good fish in there. A buddy sent me a picture of an 8.25 he caught yesterday.

I tournament fish out there a few times a year and there are a couple of spots that can fill the box with unders in 10 minutes. Spend the rest of the time looking for the over.

Had one spot give up two 7's, an 8 and several slots. Hasn't produced as well this year, but big fish are being caught.

As far as the recreational boaters, as long as your off the lake by 12-1pm, you'll be fine. It's tough fishing after that anyway usually.

Early morning. Wind blown points. Crankbait. Just sayin.

Like a couple of the regulars have mentioned, this lake, without grass, is a "spot on spot" lake. It takes time to learn them and then as some one else mentioned, you have to time it right.

I've had some tough days there too, but generally can manage a few and an occasional over the slot.

Use your electronics---look over points, tanks and ridges for changes, cuts, brush and baitfish. Don't be afraid to fish 25-30ft. goood luck!

Wayne
