I was fishing Inks today, near the dam just waiting for them to start generating (never did). Two folks, a man and a boy, come barreling down the lake on PWC. They stop at the buoys about 300 yards from me, but I can hear them just fine. The boy says "I want to go to the dam" and the guy says "there's no reason to, that guy is fishing and I don't want to disturb him". They turned and went back up the lake. Now they could have gone right by me without hurting a thing, but the guy illustrated to the boy that other people's recreation is important too.

So not everyone on a PWC is a jerk, just most of them it seems.

Actually I have been surprised lately that they have avoided me more than previously while I had 3 or 4 fishing boats go wtihin 50 feet of me on plane when they could have gone around or idled. Either way didn't bother me, I wasn't catching anything and the bite only starts when they generate, at which point it doesn't matter who is running where.

It seems hit and miss to me, some seem ok and others think they own the lake. Had a young boy buzz me saturday on alvarado lake and about 5 minutes later he came back idling toward us, i thought he might want to cause trouble but he came to tell me that his dad wanted him to come apologize for what he had done.

That is good to Hear. I also have noticed somewhat of a conscience in Jet Skiers. Hope the trend continues.

I tell you what there are just as many rude fisherman on the water. It never fails be back in a creek arm and you see this bass boat come flying around the corner and never slow down. I either idle out till I get past them or completly out or If I do get up on plain soon as I see someone I cool her off till I get well passed them.

We have had alot more Bass Boats come too close to us than PWC or Ski Boats. Maybe I just expect more out of a person who fishes.?

Believe me, that old adage about "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!" is true no matter what you fish out of or ride on. I've seen some pretty rude bass fishermen (and yes I am a bassfisherman and tournament angler) as well as PWC riders. There are good examples and bad examples everywhere. Here in Georgia I live by one of the metro Atlanta area lakes and the ones that baffle me are the yacht owners. Most of them plow the lake without a clue as to what thier waves are doing to people and to the shoreline!

All true - it is not the watercraft being driven, but the person at the controls - ignorance is as ignorance does. I always appreciate the operator who does the right thing..the ignorant ones, there is no helping them - they'll die ignorant.

Had the game warden stop us over the holiday weekend for a safety check - he was a great guy and shared with us what he called the 50' rule. He stated that if you come upon an object at rest, be that another boat, boat dock, pier etc, and you are within 50' of it that you are required by TX law to be at idle speed, no wake. First time I heard of this and wanted to pass it along as ticketds were written for it that weekend.

It is good to hear such a story. Glad his dad taught him a lesson. So many don't.

I have tried to with my son as far as etiquette of fishing. We were fish a Tournament on Sandlin this weekend when this Ranger boat cut us off to the spot that I considered to possibly hold a lot of fish. I believed the better fish would be closer to the point, so we started there. They stayed on this spot for about an hour catching several small fish and a few small keepers. We were not getting bit. So, I asked my son if he wanted to go around them, since they had cut us off and says to me, no lets fish back out and wait for them to leave. We did so and put 2 more keepers in the boat and one of our best fish of the day. After they left we proceeded to catch 7 keepers and start culling. Sometimes he reteaches me now.

I have 2 pwc, I don't ride but my wife and kids do. I have told them that if they get within 500' of someone who is fishing, has been fishing, will be fishing or has ever thought about fishing, the skis will explode and sink! They get the message.

its even worse when the bass boats fly by.. then come back on plane still and wave.. Very inconsiderate.

seems like everyone on the Guadalupe heading to the lake drives as fast as they can.

Hey yeah brennansgrandpa!! On the lake or the road, if we could write our own tickets life would be better! I took the wife and kids to the mall the other day (and Cabelas), people are just as rude and dumb when they are walking too! If they can't pay attention walking whats gonna happen when they get in their cars!!

It's just plain and simple- PAY ATTENTION!!! Some people think the world revolves around them.

I don't think they have any such thoughts of the world revolving... they just don't have thoughts. It's like looking at a chow in the eyes... no one home most of the time...
