Tickeling the mud is an expression that i use when fishing a slab, sometimes when vertical jigging the old conventional way,(12inches or more up and down)the bite may be slow. Try this, twitch your rod tip very fast and only pick it up 1 to 2 inches. This may be all you need to do for a great day of fishing. What's your favorite way to fish a slab or jigging spoon?

Never knew what to call it when fishing that way, but hey that sounds good. I like all ways as long as they are hitting. I especially like it when fishing fish suspened with many shad in the area and burn the lure thru them either vertically or casting thru them. Sometimes that is the way they want it. One thing about it they are pretty good at tell you how they want it, even on the days they dont want it at all.

I always just try to "flip-flop" the slab on bottom. Unless I'm "smokin' it".

I like when they are close too surface, hold rod tip up reel fast and slide the slab across the water having the fish slapping at it and when the splashes look like a big one let it fall a second, as soon as you turn the crank again,- WHAM...

I was taught the " Stevenson Jiggle " by my
neighbor, Rick. (his brother,Mark caught Ethel,
If you don't know who Ethel was , Ask someone who
bass fishes. smile )
Pick the slab off the bottom and give the
rod tip a couple of quick shakes, If you don't
get bit, lay it back on the bottom and repeat.
This works almost all the time. Espcially good
in cold weather.
Early in the fall, I find they want to chase
a bait, Will cast the slab, let it go to bottom,
Burn it for 3-5 cranks and let it fall back to
the bottom. Repeat. Many times you can feel them suck it up off the bottom.
good luck

Good name for it gary. Kind of like wiggling a finess bait in place. You also pick up lots of bonus fish that way - catfish and drum - besides the whites and stripers.
