Well, Took good friend Ruben out to CC today to see if we could find any fish.... We got their early to look for some schooling action, NONE TO BE FOUND......The lake was very crowded today, man their where boats on every spot you could think off...So we had to find our own spot, and it paid off....Finished the day with 50 sandies and 1 keeper hybrid and all by our selves, most of the sandies were HUGE, and Rubens first hybrid was 6.19lb...( Jim and Don, the lunch bell rang )Fish where found in 13ft water trolling the hell/pet...I tell you what , their are alot of people that read this forum, I would like to say, Hi and join in the fun and post a little, I know I seen 50 boats trolling the hell/pet today, and you use to hardly see anyone doing it. Congrats Ruben. By the time it took a 3rd run from the boat you probably didn't think it would ever give up.
I wasn't down this weekend, hence no reports from me.

Sadly, my failure to control my scene keep me from fishing with my two buddies today....However, if I had gone with them, you can rest assured that I would have been the one without the goofy hat. Congrats Ruben~!

With everybody leisurely trolling its like trying to fish in a blender. I cant wait till fall when this Hell Pet thing dies off a little. Some people have trolling as there only form of fishing now & need to switch it up a bit.. Please..... I saw a Trophy boat leaving at around 2:45 or so was that yall? I never saw Guy & Earnest today and i looked for a few crappie on the docks with only a few strikes the whole time.. Looks like I gotta hire one of the pro's as my docks --which are few had no fish

John thanks for the wonderful fishing trip and the pleasure of catching my first legal Hybrid with a good buddy. Thanks to Amy for the sandwiches. Tasty as always. Next time I will be sure to catch fewer fish than the person providing the boat. Steve and Steve thanks for the Congrats!! Bradbury I sure did enjoy playing the part of "The Trashtalker" on the boat since you were not around. "Whooped-Bury" a couple of quick questions: 1) Does she also tell you which pair of PANTIES to put wear, 2) since you are only ALLOWED to fish once a month wouldn't it be cheaper to sell your boat and just rent one the one time a month you get to go? JP that sounds about the right time we were leaving. Ruben
Good Fishing To Ya, Ruben

Since I am the only hold out of the guys I fish with without a straw hat, other then one made by resistol, I have to talk a little. I called Varner Ruben and told him my ears did burn a little. Wife likes to get out on the boat, but does not like to get up and go early unless it is close to home. She likes to go out on "our" boat, but when it comes time to clean "our" boat it becomes mine, when it comes time to have work done on "our"boat, it becomes mine. At least I am teaching her to launch my, I mean our boat. I do not think we will ever get her on a waverunner though-she will be hitting me, clawing me, etc to slow down:D No, I get to pick out all articles of clothing, but I am asked from time to time, Are you going to wear that?? I will be out tomorrow and the next Tuesday for sure. One day this weekend, then the next I will be fishing in another state. After that, it gets real tough. Getting stuff ready for huntings season and then actual hunting season. However, I will fish at least as many times in the fall as last year, but maybe more. JP, The last time I was at CC at the ramp at CCL, I saw three boats that had hellbenders and petspoons on rods. I always wonder how they know about it, other then TFF, taking a guided trip with Billy, myself, Varner, Ernest, or Duck Jerky. Lots of lurkers here and they never post a report. Still, there are tons of areas in the lake to go fish that do not get fished, you just have to find them. That is why I have weekday spots and weekend spots. You can go slab all you want at CC, but if the fish are not deep enough then you are not going to get them in the areas folks are trolling, you may get a couple, but not the numbers you get trolling. Now, there is no need to troll at RC, folks do it all the time, but no need. The other day, a couple of guys trolled thru surfacing fish....... Don,,,,you have a hat like that too. Guess I will have to go get one finally and give up my floppy cloth hat.

I've decided that as soon as I retire from fishing which will be sooner than later that I wil give my business and my clients to Varner. He will be the man on CC as well as other lakes. Right now I am still without my new boat for over 2 months due to legal and structural problems with new boat, so am stuck with old boat which fortunately never sold. It is a piece of junk but runs well enough to do the job. I guess me and new boats were never meant to be.

Varner did not have to convince Ruben not to go to Hubbard...lol Ruben had been wanting to go to CC for a long time. I was hoping to go as well.
I may be on CC tomorrow or it might turn out to be RC...not 100% yet.
I have one or two more guided trips to get out of the way before hunting season. I could pick up maybe one or two more if the days work out, but after August 19th, I do not have anything else booked at CC and probably will not take any after that is I will gearing up for hunting season and then hunting. OH, I still will fish over there, but it will be for fun...

I have not retired yet, just am considered it as an option. Anyway fished this afternoon with first timers Gary and cliff Hutchinson, they wanted to learn lake a little better. Lake flat calm, temp around 95, hotter than #@%$#%%. Anyway found a few fish immediately, but they left us, so went looking for more, found a nice school but these fish would not even bite a hell/pet rig. So went looking for more, finally found some cooperative fish on midlake hump, getting about 40 there, keeping about 28 from it over 12, withs several over 16, water 16-20 feet. Checked a couple of more spots on east side of lake and ended our day at 6 with about 85 caught, keeping a 2 person limit of 50 magnum Whites, 2 cats. All fish on the hell/pet rig. Oh yeah, we did try some slabs with notta as a result. I cannot wait till fall.

Hey Billy!
If the boat situation gets to rough for ya, you are always welcome on the smallblessing with the Yellow Bassmaster and I!
Dissapointment builds character! But I bet you figure you got enough of that by now. I hope it works out soon for you.

Wow, John, nice hybrid! We troll a lot, on Lake Belton, but see very few others doing it. We are originally from Western Canada, so trolling is a technique we grew up with, for salmon and trout. Last two weekends, we caught 31 hybrids, but cannot seem to find the bigger guys. One day, maybe. Photo is my wife Terri, with a typical catch, just under two lbs. We look for submerged baitballs at channel dropoffs, have never trolled the hell-pet that shallow. We're finding them at around 22-25 feet. Would you have any suggestions? Congrats to you, DJTripleR, nice fish. We will keep trying! Fat Dog, when we troll for Hybrids, we troll about the same depths as you, now the sandies on CC will be much shalloweer this time of year....The bottom picture is one from last year, I was with Ernest Paty catching crappie on the bridge...we hooked onto 5 hybrids but only got 3 in the boat...we where using 4ft rods with 6lb Mr. Crappie Hi VIZ line...what a fight...Jim is just making fun of my hat,,,,,But he didnt post the pics of him...he has a similar hat
