Has anyone used one of his crankbait rods yet? Or is there a better option around the same price range? I just bought a BPS Pro qualifier for crankbaiting and need a rod to go with it. Thanks for your help.

I have the 7' 10" model and I love it. It is a bit on the heavy side but pulling in big crank baits if effortless.

The American Rodsmiths Fritz cranking rod is worth checking out. It's $60 at academy.

I like mine a lot.....very soft tip and you can feel everything. Too soft for big cranks though. I use it for my small cranks and wake baits.

I have one and used it a few times. I really wanted to like this rod, but it just never felt right to me. It's pretty bulky for the smaller-medium cranks I was using it for and just did not have the sensitivity that I expect from a crankbait rod. In my opinion it is critical that I feel everything while crankin'.

As far as it being good for the money?? I cannot make an opinion one way or the other. I have only had experience with two crankbait specific rods. The other being my G Loomis CBR 855C GLX. I understand that they are in two complete different price ranges, but I did have the Skeet Reese rod before the Loomis.

I do like the yellow paint job though. smile

What should I be looking for between a shallow/mid depth cranking rod and a deep diver rod?

What does this have to do with the quality of a rod? The best rods, such as a Gloomis or Dobyns would also readily break off on a ceiling fan. By your logic, an Ugly Stik is the absolute best rod on the market.
I also think the Skeet rods suck, but for different reasons. Heavy, slow actions, ugly, Heavy, and just plain cheap feel to them. Hard to describe in words, but you can tell when you handle a quality rod back to back with a rod like this.

Heavy, ugly, cheap feeling and should sell for $29.95. Yellow paint and a Pro's name on those things are the only reason they sell at all. Another marketing gimmick
