Fish Caldwell pier at night at the 2nd light. The schools of trout will show up at some point.

Free shrimp or use a popping cork. Speck rigs can be deadly too.
The North Jetty has produced better for me. Right where the beach and the jetty meet. It is called the "corner" and the Trout run through there early am.

He is correct about the shrimp on popping cork at night under the second light on the right side of pier. For some reason, the right side is much more productive than the left. You need to keep a 4-6ft leader under the cork. A short leader will not get as many hits.
My friend PJ has been hooking quite a few tarpon off the end of the pier too. He is jigging slabs!!!! Crazy!!! I did not believe him at first but got to see him jump a few. He needs larger hooks for solid hookups.
Without a boat, I would head to the packery channel. The trout fishing is almost always productive along the southside of the jetty early on topwaters. Then in the afternoon and late, trout, snook, reds, smacks, kings and jacks can all be caught off the end of the south side. I throw assassins on 1/4 oz heads for trout and snook. I use jerkbaits for the larger fish. Trout and snook will also both hit the jerkbaits. Last time out, we lost a few topwaters and jerks to kings.
Keep your eyes on the water, regardless of which jetty you fish. Look for baitfish scattering, large schools of mullet and rockets jumping out of the water. Bird activity is also good to look for. If using assassins, a steady retrieve can sometimes be more productive than bouncing. Good luck and let us know how you did.

We use assassians sometimes, but mostely we will be targeting boddem feeding fish with the exception of trout. We mostely use shrimp and squid and any cutbait we can get in the nets.

Any suggestions for best color for soft plastics at the Packery? Maybe a steel leader would be a good idea...

just leaving today. Arrived on tues. night and all looked promising Wed. except extreme seaweed, Then the tide was up to the dunes and huge waves and off and on rain until things began to settle Sat. morning. The flooding tides in the marsh probably would have had some good opportunities, but we were mostly prepared for the beach. Anyway,

Got into the tail end of a Redfish bite on incoming tide at Packery on the bay side of the road at the big eddy, No mullet shools in the surf or much birds a'working. Caught a few things past 3rd bar in yak....all in all very sad fishing. But the ;Biggest problem was SEAWEED. Almost impossible to fish till Sat.
