Does one have to keep watchful eye out for rattlesnakes or copperheads while not in the river?

Of course you should around any kind of water in the summer, but just be mindful of where you are stepping and you should be okay. I would be more worried about crowds then anything else.

I'm heading on up on Sat. Hoping that the rain forecast will keep the crowds down.

You got that right. Good luck.
I only ask that when you get there go into Sids Fly Shop and get the list of GW (Game Wardens) that are working in the area and if you see someone poaching, don't hesitate to call them in.

Yep, he has all of their cell phone numbers on a sheet and you can call whichever one you please.
With them putting in a lot of brown trout eggs, I want to see the poaching come to a stop. If it does, the LMFR could be a great little fishery.

Yes the list has the cell numbers for the local Wardens and Oklahoma's Operation Game Thief. Sid will also give you the main park number. I was up there 2 Saturdays ago and we had to report some people swimming in the newly rebuilt Lost Creek Area. Apparently they couldn't comprende the signs. There wasn't alot of people fishing the river.

TO REPORT WILDLIFE VIOLATIONS Operation Game Thief 1-800-522-8039 or Law Enforcement Division (405) 521-3719
McCURTAIN COUNTY Game wardens Dru Polk, Smithville ................(580) 513-6866 Kenny Lawson, Idabel . . . . ....(580) 513-4963 Mark Hannah, Broken Bow ......(580) 513-4651
Also the park rangers can and do write fishing violations as can both of the ODWC biologists Paul Balkenbush, James Vincent and their boss, Kim Erickson Chief of Fisheries. The sheriffs dept. can also often reach someone over the radio when a phone call doesn't reach a human.
