I was wondering if a Ranger 198VX that is 19ft, and has a yamaha 200, is a good tournament boat like for fishing team tournaments and like the BFL tournaments, how does this boat handle rougher water, and is this boat big enough?

My old partner had a 198 v and it was a little small for my preference. If you want a smaller boat that handles rough water a ranger is not the boat for you. I would look for a champion 198 . Best 19 ft rough water boat of all time. The bigger rangers handle the rough water all right. But you gotta think bigger the motor the quicker response you have to work through through 4-5 ft swells.

I've got a 461, it is also a 19ft boat. Handles everything I need and more. I will be fishing the BLT this fall, and you are welcome to come check it out. I have been on big bodies in 35+ mph winds without any problems other than occasional spray.
Saved by the Lord... glad to be an Aggie!

Ponderosa, I ran a 198 VX for several years. I fished the old FLW TTT circuit for several years in it and we fished all the larger lakes in Texas. I never once had a problem in it and it handles the rough water very well. All of the co-anglers I had during those tournaments all committed on how well the boat handled the big waters. How well a boat handles in rough water is directly proportional to how well the driver can handle it in those conditions. You would not be dissappointed with this boat.
Good luck to you,

A 198 is plenty big for any tournament you are going to fish. There are plenty of them that fish FLW Strens. I think he's got a 20 now but Denny Brauer used to fish out of a Z19. That Z boat will knock your teeth out...

I have a Ranger 519VX and have fished the Rayburn-Toledo Media's and am currently fishing the Waco BLT and I have not had any problems in rough water. I do not think you will have any trouble as long as you learn what your boat will do in situations.
