They were doing well under the lights from the private piers in Cold Pass, the last report I got. I've fished from a couple of those piers, but do not fish at night anymore.
Have you ever tried there?

It's been years since I did any night fishing at the pass. Now that I kinda know what I'm doing I should give it a try again. Some of them folks don't take kindly to folks in boats fishing around thier lights. I had words with one several years ago. We were being quiet and they weren't outside fishing and he come out threatening us if we didn't move. We weren't catching anything anyways so no big deal.

I've been on one of those piers several times when something like that happened. I kept my boat down there and stayed with a AH who owned one of those piers. We broke up. Those guys don't own the bay, but you don't want to get into it with them. You can easily fish the lights, by anchoring on the outside of the lights, and casting toward them. The people on the piers can only cast to about the middle of the lighted area. The bigger fish are usually on the edges of the lights. Use a longer anchor rope, and you might be able to adjust to several piers with the moving tide.

IMHO fishing using somebodies lights without asking is, by principle, wrong. It would seem to be more proper to ask them if you can fish on the outer fringes of the lights, and offer them a few bucks for generator gasoline. It's just using a good neighbor policy.

I've been fishing SLP area at night with lights for several years. Need a small generator, one Par 64 light, and when you catch it right, you limit in 30min or less. Not much fun when you catch one every cast- speck rig two every cast.

Ever been stuck on a pier with a boat pulled up to it? You completely BONE fishing for the guys on the pier. You're the kind of guys we used to take pleasure in nailing with weights from the pier that came within our casting arcs, especially on Walter Umphrey........

They aren't doing anything wrong. The boaters should not be infringing on their territory (lighted area) without some sort of permission. Chances are that if the boaters were polite enough to ask and offered some gasoline money for the generator, there probably wouldn't be any problems.

Just to clear a few issues. It was around 0200 hrs. It was electric lights off a pier. There was no one fishing there. I was not mad at the fella for wanting us to move. I just didn't care for the threats of "shooting holes in your ____ boat". I would gladly have asked if there would have been someone there and would not have thought to fish if they were fishing from thier pier.

I don't want to get into it with you guys either. Those lights are from power poles. The lighted area goes way beyond the casting area from the privatre piers. I've been there and seen people fish without interfearing with the people on the piers. You'd have to boat up into the fishing area to ask permission. You don't have to ask me permission to fish outside of my casting area when I'm fishing the bridge.

Some of them folks don't take kindly to folks in boats fishing around their lights. My point of view was directed in the context of someone bringing their own generator and lights, shining them in the water, then a boat appears and fishes off their lights. It was not directed at lights on power poles, or general park/jetty/public lights. When gaff stated 'their' I saw this from the point of view of privately owned lights powered by a generator. Perhaps I was wrong. My feelings haven't changed in the context that it is wrong to fish off the lights and generator that is privately owned, unless permission is granted.
