I bought a small boat here on the forum and started fishing recently. About two months ago, on advice from the awesome fishermen here on the forum, I took a bunch of Little Georges out to Lavon and slayed the white bass. All we did was find the fish surfacing and chuck the Georges out. Now, the exact same fish are surfacing all around us, we're using the exact same lures, but we can't get them to bite. I've tried everything from lipped crank bates that look like shad to pet spoons with no luck(You've probably guessed that I'm a novice). I would appreciate y'alls help. Believe me, you're in no danger of me stealing your spot or burning up the tournament trail. I just want to catch some fish with my wife on the weekend.
Your advice appreciated,
Jack

if you are targeting Sandies, try a white rooster tail

the main thing is not to get discouraged. even the best fisherman have bad days. sand bass are like that , when they're feeding its on!!! when they're not it can make for a long day.

When the fish are surfacing and you can't get them to bite, try a smaller lure or change color.

Try a 1/4 oz. chrome/blue back Rattle Trap, if they won't hit that, go home or go swimming one, they ain't bitin'!!
Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

OR........ try a surface lure like a Tiny Torpedo. Sometimes a REAL FAST retreive will work.

Yes, I'd say that maybe you should try changing colors until you find what they're looking for. I'd definitely start out with that white rooster tail or the tiny chrome/blue back rattle trap as mentioned above. Good luck.

You big ones come two at a time... you little ones, just as fast as you can get here!

Tomahawk,
A lot of the surface feeding sandies the wife and I have been catching lately are pretty small. Not all keepers, but fun to catch. Try this. A clear tiny torpedo or small pop-r type popper. Take off the rear treble. Tie a white 1/16 oz maribou crappie jig on about a 16" leader to the back of the plug. My wife calls this the "float n' tote" rig. Chunk it out there amongst 'em and experiment with the retrieve a little. Probably get you bit and sometimes a "double" which is fun too! A pet spoon rigged the same way works good also and lasts longer than the old maribou crappie jig. On the other hand, the jigs are 10 for about $.97 at Wal-Mart. Like was said, don't get discouraged. Just try something different!

All who posted, thanks for your help! I'll have something to try the next couple of times we go out. Again, thanks.

Try trolling! Get you a Chrome "Hellbender" or a Pink Lady diving plane, rig a trailer about 18" long with 17 lb mono and tie on a pet spoon with yellow or white feathers, fire up the motor and troll until you start catching them and go back break out the jigging spoons and little Georges (Tail hummers are even better).

Rig up a Glimmer Blue or Watermelon Red Super Fluke and fish around grass somewhere and you will get bit. This is a good lure for anyone to get bit on. Rig it weedless and float it or attach a split shot. Hang on and set the hook.

throw a 1/4oz chrome blue trap at 'em as mentioned already, if they won't hit that, fish somewhere else.
Trolling a hell pet will work this time of year.
