My boss is wanting to go fishing Friday nite , but we have been working long days. So we have not had a chance to go in a few months . It has gotten so bad with him at work that he had salt and pepper hair to now just salt colored hair . So any help with Shad would be great .

Boat ramps right after dark would be my best suggestion.

The best luck I have had at night is droping a crappie light in the water and waiting for an hour or so. The shad will start swiming around the light. Use your cast net and toss within a few feet of the light. Let it drop down at least 3 feet or so. I have had no problem getting shad doing this on Lake Fork, Bob Sandlin, and Cypress Springs. I just started this a couple weeks ago, and have had fresh shad on every trip so far.

Even if you only see small ones around the light, drop it down a few feet and you should get the bigger ones. I have test this under bridges and out in the wide open within 30 feet from the bank. I am going to test even deeper soon.

Oh yea, the crappie light I am refering to is the one that looks like a round headlight set in styrophome. It works great.

Thanks guys.

The shad are on boat ramps very early. Behind the spillway there are a few very large shad in the heat of the day. The aerator is holding threadfin but they are still somewhat deep (10-15ft) and you need a heavier net to get down thru the bubbles. There are some gizzard shad hanging out near 5-10' timber but you will loose a net or two before getting enough to fish for the day.
