Can anyone explain what the rules on black drum mean?
It says that the drum must be between 14-30, but then it has a clause saying that you can only keep one that is over 54.
What about drum that are between 30 and 54?

Thanks

Simple. Slot size of 14-30 inches are keepers included in your bag limit.

You cannot keep any black drum over 30 inches to 52 inches.

You can keep ONE black drum over 52 inches that counts as part of your five fish limit.

I'll past on those black drums. I've caught one over 50 inches in Texas City last year and was about to let it go. When one guy (south of the border)said, "why you let it go? give it to me." I said look at the tail you can see the worms moving. He said it's good... I go home and cook it real good. It was not even two minutes yet and I hooked-up on another fish. By the time I unhooked and released the blow fish. The guy was gone. I don't know how he did it so fast but he packed up his two rods, tackle box, and was gone by the time I turned around. All I was thinking of is how he was going to "cook it real good."

I gots news for y'all....Them red drums and trouts gots dem worms too. In fact, everything in saltwater has 'em. You just gotta cook a lil' mo' better. They add extra protein.

I got news for all of you...."dem" worms aren't dangerous, at all, to humans. You could eat them whole sushimi style and not get sick.

They're a form of tapeworm that targets sharks...

and yes, every single drum you pull up, black red or speckled trout, is loaded with little ones...

I know a lot of fish has "dem" worms but mostly the big older fish has them. When it comes to a point where "dem" worms are so big and long that you can see them move around the outside & under the skin of a living fish. I am not eating it. Plus those older fishes are tougher and much chewier. IMO I see "dem" in black drums more than any other fish "I GUARAAAANTEEEE that."

Hey... being a former snake eater, myself, I know about extra protein. But that dont mean I WANT to eat that stuff !

Ya'll eat all those black drum you want. I'll stay with the medium sized reds.

I'd be concerned about the mercury content of the bigger fish than the worms. You can cook and eat the worms. The mercury??? Not so much.
