I took a motorcycle ride today with friends out to Stonehenge II which is right outside of Hunt, Texas. I was amazed how great the river looks. As we rode along I was scouting out and imagining where all the fish would be holding. I've never been on the water in this area and was wondering if there are any public access areas where one could wade and toss a few flies? The only place I saw that looked open to the public was a boat ramp right outside of Ingram. Other than that everything looked like private property. I do have a kayak and I suppose I could launch at the boat ramp and paddle up and down the river. Any info would be greatly appreciated! SteveO

From the boat ramp in Ingram where you were, if you go toward Hunt about a mile up highway 39, the next crossing is Rio Vista. You could put in there but can't park there. Then about another 1 1/2 mile further and you come to Waltonia Crossing and you can park there and put in. Then if you go further up about 2 miles maybe, you come to Shoemacher Crossing. You can park and put in there right off the highway. You are now about 1/2 mile from Hunt. Basically from Hunt to Ingram you need to access the river with a kayak because of so many deep water spots, though there will be places to wade.
Wading spots are easy to find and access from Kerrville to Center Point all the way to Comfort(virtually the whole stretch about 10+ miles). I never tried wading around Hunt because I have heard of trouble also, but I have no first hand knowledge.

davo- thanks for the very concise useful information..thats exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully in two weeks I'll have some time off and can make it down there. I have wanted to try around Comfort but was thinking the water there may have totally dried up last year and not have many good sized fish left? Steve
