Bass Pro Shops® News Releases FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bass Pro Shops Coming to Garland, Texas June 4, 2004
Garland, Texas-June 3, 2004-Bass Pro Shops, America's most popular outdoor store, today announced they have agreed to open their third Texas store on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard on I-30 in Garland. The outdoor store, which will anchor the new 28-acre Harbor Point Development, will include approximately 120,000 square foot of retail selling space plus a restaurant, boat super center and a marina. Opening date is tentatively planned for late 2005.
"The citizens of Garland are excited about this development, as demonstrated by the results of last month's bond election," said Garland Mayor Bob Day. "All of Garland will benefit from the location of a new hotel, shopping and restaurants that will be generated by Bass Pro for the Harbor Point development."
"I know the residents of my district are excited about the opportunities this development will create for them and for everyone in the surrounding areas," added District 3 City Councilman Harry Hickey. "Bass Pro's commitment to build at Harbor Point is a victory for the entire City of Garland."
Bass Pro Shops award-winning, mega size outdoor stores are known for combining retail with entertainment, conservation and outdoor education. Their current 21destination retail stores across America attract over 60 million people annually.
"We are very pleased to partner with Harvest Partners and Bass Pro Shops in a public/private partnership that will entertain and educate Garland residents and non-residents for many years to come," commented vice president of the Garland Economic Development Partnership Greg Sims.
"This is really special real estate that will now anchor the southern half of the City and the citizens of Garland should be proud of their vision," continued Blaine Lee of Harvest Partners. "We have worked diligently with the City and Bass Pro Shops to make this a reality."
More that just a fishing and hunting store, Bass Pro Shops will also offer equipment and clothing for hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, camping, outdoor cooking and more. A gift and nature center will also serve up a wide variety of outdoor-related items from lamps and dishes to bird feeders and furniture.
The expansive boat showroom will be located on land and water and will feature Tracker, Nitro and Tahoe boats built by Tracker Marine Group-the world's largest manufacturer of fishing boats.
Bass Pro Shops unique exterior and interior motifs have branded them as visually appealing, high quality outdoor stores. The outdoor feel is brought indoors through massive log and rock work, large indoor aquariums and water features stocked with native fish species, as well as an extensive collection of museum quality fish and wildlife mounts. Historic photos and exhibits will pay tribute to Texas's great outdoor heritage.
"We are very excited about creating a truly unique Bass Pro Shops store right on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard," stated Bass Pro Shops president Jim Hagale. "The attached marina will allow us to do boat sales, test equipment, and do outdoor skills classes right on the water. We are very thankful to the city of Garland and Harvest Partners for this opportunity to serve the people of Texas with our third Texas store."

SWEET!!! Sure will be convinient for us in the eastern parts of the Metroplex.
Makes we wonder though why all of a sudden these outdoor-themed store are all coming to town?!? It started with BPS in Grapevine, and then Cabela's in FW. I recently got an ad for "Sportsmans Warehouse" in Lewisville which sounds like a similar place. I wonder if this is a fad, or are these places here to stay.
John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

This could be a dream come true. It is a 40 mile drive for me to get to the BPS in Grapevine, and I do it on a regular basis. Build it and we will come!
