Back when Amistad was pretty new but with lots of water, we went out when it had slowed down to a 1'/hour rise, ranger told us during the night it was at 1.5-2'/hour. All roads out of Del Rio were closed, so we had to go out fishing that afternoon. The black bushes weren't so black after the covering of snakes in them slid into the water. Also saw lots of rabbits that had been trapped up in the bushes.
Sure Larry S remembers it, was back when he had Anglers Lodge. Dang I am getting or is it have gotten old.

old fisherman..........I do remember. It came 27 feet in three days. Pushed muddy water to Marker 5. IBWC opened all but 2 gates and it still continued to rise. Several of us went out on the dam and looked off the lake side to see huge whirlpools where the gates were open. We walked across the road on the river side to see mist 50-100 feet above our heads. The dam was shaking and you could scream and not be heard. My memory says 1973. and it came from a hurricane.
The fishing was incredible. Bushes full of snakes , mice, rabbits, quail, and other varmits. We would fish one place for an hour, go across the cove or change locations, turn around to go back where we started and could not find where we had fished.
You guys need to understand that when it rains in Mexico (in the mountains or on the Conchas River we do not hear anything until the rise occurs. The Pecos and the Devils do not put any water in Amistad compared to what Mexico does.
All this water came from Mexico.
If you would like get better info than what The Park Service and noaa. or the other ewaethe rsite has......up to date send me your email and will start sending up to the hour and day reports of conditions. The Park Service says the Lake is still at 1116.something and all ramps open. I would bet that you cannot get to los Cuatas at the bottom of the bend....maybe even much above marker 28. BUT you don't think THE NPS would report this. JOKE

I just looked at the flow rate at Ross Foster Ranch near Sanderson on The Rio Grande. It is 313 which is about 275 above normal. Thats a 20 ft rise on the Rio Grande (all coming from Mexico none above Preidio) and still flowing strong.

Amistad is at 1126.67 and still rising. Passed the 1991 mark and is now the highest it has been since 1974.

http://wiid.twdb.state.tx.us/ims/resinfo/BushButton/lakeStatus.aspthis site will show that Amistad has come up 12 feet in 3 days which is mind boggling considering it was 95% full.....now it is 118% full. I hope the dam can with stand this unprecedented pressure because this will go on for a while. Amistad has nearly 4,000,000 acre feet of water in it right now.
