Does anyone know what the sand bass are doing at Ray Roberts? Have they moved out of the creeks and back into the lake? Any info will be appreciated.

I am also looking for info on sand bass at ray bob. I have been voted fishing guide to 20 cub scouts on the 26th & 27th. Would like to get them all hooked on fishing and schooling sandies is the best way! Are there any birds on the lake to help locate fish?

I was at Ray Bob Saturday and saw HUNDREDS of birds coming out of Sand Branch. It was eerie the way they were coming across the lake single file. The line of them, nose to tail, easily reached from the mouth of Johnson Branch to Sand Branch, they would just take off and fly across one by one, it must have taken five minutes for all of them to land at Johnson Branch.

Unfortunately, the majority of these birds were those black gulls or ducks or whatever they are, probably only about a quarter of them were the white "fish finders". However, I don't know if the birds will be that active yet or not.

A friend of mine was out there saturday and did real well. Just look for the pack of boats down on the lower end of the lake.

3inch sassy shads were the ticket

I was out there Saturday too. The birds were working pretty good. We were using chrome/blue rattle traps but saw most of the people using white sassy shad. Either will work and the fish were of decent size.

The birds will be there. We got into some sandies last Friday directly east of Wolf Island about 1/2 mile. I hope I get my creeks correct (don't have a map handy) but think it is where Isle du Bois and Buck creeks split. 24-27 feet of water. There were birds everywhere. We caught 20-30 keepers in about 1 hour using white & chrome Little Joe's. When I lost the only Little Joe I had with me I tied on a 3" white Sassy Shad with a spinner attached to the jig head. It seemed to work just as well.

I wouldn't worry about the location to much, just look for the birds.

Does the time of day seem to matter? Thanks.

That will start a good argument.

I personally don't think it does this time of year. Just find the birds and start fishing. Lures seem to make more difference then time of day. I can't recommend anything there, yet. I haven't found the combination myself. I keep hitting and missing but nothing reliable.

During the heat of summer I prefer late afternoon. Some of the best sand bass fishing I have ever seen was on Ray Roberts during the last 2 hours of daylight, any day, July thru September. I keep 2 rods ready; 1 with a Tailhummer, another with a Tiny Torpedo.

and, p.s. jiggin spoons (cant give away the brand ) are the key for sandies out there
