Just go fish your strengths, the lake can be fished many ways successfully.
Find an area that looks fishy and fish it.
The only thing you should be concerned about is navigating on it.
I'm sure anyone who is there won't mind helping you out on good locations to fish.

Good luck.

I got spanked there yesterday. But then again, I'm more of a springtime fisherman.

The bass were following whites around and busting top water all day Tuesday. I got to noticing that some swirls from the fish coming up seemed larger than what whites would make. Pulled out a top water plug and nailed some from 4 to 6 pounds on it.

With the cloud cover, the fish weren't relating to grass. They were cruising about 12 foot down. Made it really tough for a plastics bite. Crankbaits seemed to work best when that was going on.

Give me a call when you head this way and I will get you updated on what I have been fishing recently. Also stop by and see Jerry at Elm Creek...he will have some info and has a good stock of baits that work on Ivie.

Fish are really scattered. Had to over 6 and some 3 to 4 pounders yesterday. Caught on 3 different baits. Ya'll are right when you say this is'nt a numbers lake. Had a 12 on sat. and 2 around 7 mon. The catfish have been biting better with good numbers. With the full moon and this front the blacks have been harder to pattern.

Any luck with the area we talked about?

Leedman,,,, I will be down there this weekend and some next week. When you ever decide to come down, give JR or myself a call and we will fill you in. It's a tough lake right now and unless you have an idea of what to do or where to go (or fished it several times) you most likely will have a big skunk.

hmmm I'm so disapointed to see comments like this regarding one of the best lakes to fish in Texas.
You can go to this lake and fish it in so many ways.
And just because someone is having a hard time finding numbers or big girls, doesn't mean it isn't possible to catch fish.
Like I said before, just go fish your strengths.
After all, it's called fishing not catching.
So I think you should just come on out to west Texas and enjoy the experience fishing it.
I still believe without a shadow of a doubt, your fish of a lifetime is just one cast away,
anytime, or anywhere at O.H. Ivie.

You're right... You are just one cast away from the fish of a lifetime. I took a friend down there Tuesday and he hung on to three big girls that had his rod bent over double. He hasn't fished in 8 years and tried to horse them in. All 3 pulled off. He still said he will remember that rod bent over double.

But, it is tough right now. We are all trying to figure out where all the "unders" have gone. Another guide fished Wednesday and Thursday with 3 fish on one day and two on the other day. All 5 fish were great hawgs though. The days of 50 to 100 fish a day on Ivie seem to be a memory though. The bait fish are everywhere though. Maybe they just have so much to eat now that the bite has slowed down.

The guy that caught the lake record had never been to the lake before. He caught a heavy 10 and the 16 pounder on the first spot he stopped to fish. So, yes, you are just one cast away from the fish of a lifetime.
