Hey Guys,
Just filled my trollin motor batteries with acid about 7 or 8 weeks ago. Now they are dry again. Probably used boat and charged batteries 12 - 15 times since then.
Minn Kota - 5 amps per circuit - fully automatic on board charger.
IS THIS NORMAL?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks Mike

Did you put "acid" or just water in the batteries?

I have never put acid in a battery, so I got nothing.

That's not normal. I've never added acid. Maybe distilled water once or twice a year at the most.

i dried em off good and set them on blocks in the garage an hour ago. no drips so far. I am at a loss. I would expect once or twice a year but come on. Maybe my charger is over charging?
Bought the battery acid at parts store.

Thats definately not normal . You either have a cracked battery case or your charger is cooking it dry. I would guess it's the charger. What kind is it?

I would hook up two batteries that I know are fully charged and check the amperage coming out of the charger to the batteries. The automatic charger should cut back to nearly nothing when they are full. If it's over .125 amps I would not leave it run all the time. Plug it in to charge and unplug when full, or replace.

This may sound stupid but on time my buddy had that problem and come to find out that when he was backing the boat down the ramp the battery was tilting and causing them to leak out the top so we took them out of the enclosed battery boxes and bought the ones that just strap the battery down and everything was fine after that now more dry batteries.Or your charger could be cooking the batteries.

Charger is cooking them. Get a new charger. Fill only with distilled water.
Get your self a "Hydrometer" and then you know when it is fully charged.
