Im looking to get a spinning rod to use for shakyheads and dropshots. Anyone have any opinions on these rods? I'm looking at a Powell 702mlef or a crucial 7ft 2in medium dropshot. Thanks for any help.

I think the Powell casting rods are more sensitive than the Crucial casting rods of similar action and length. I have owned several models of both brands. I have not fished the spinning rods from either company so I cannot comment on the specific rods.
Another thought, you might decide which technique you want the rod for more. Both of those rods might be very good drop shot rods but I think they will be on the light side for shakey heads.
Good luck on your purchase.

There is no better drop shot rod than the Shimano Crucial. I cant really say that because I have not fished alot of them. I own 6 Shimano Crucial drop shot rods. Two 6ft 8 spinning, two 7ft 2 spinning and 2 of the 7 ft bait cast drop shot rods. The bait cast rods are awesome wackey worm and shakey head rods. The bait keeper on the rod is the best design there is for the drop shot setup.

hey you should check out the dobyns savvy series rods for around that same price range as the powell and crucial rods. I am very surprised by these rods, very sensitive, and perfectly balanced.

There is no better drop shot rod than the Shimano Crucial. 100% agree there. Awesome rod at a great price point for dropshotting. However to the OP, if you are looking for a double duty rod for that and shaky head I would not recommend the Shimano drop shot specific rod. They have very very very light tips and I find it not enough power for even a shaky head or split shot finesse rig. Daren

For the shakey head rod, you may want to step up to the Cumara line. Give the 7'2" CUCX-72M or the CUC-72MH a try. I have several of both. They are very sensative and versatile. I use a Crucial for a frog rog.
