They catchin' em trolling DD-22's, JD? Just checkin' to see how on top your game you are... Sean, his son Casey and I will be up there in the morning trying not to get run over by the boat shows. I think this will be Casey's last hurrah before he has to report to Ft. Knox. Got a topwater strung up and a Sassy Shad on the other rod...gotta meet them at their place at 4 a.m. Just a walk in the park....

I was out of Soldiers Creek this morning and we caught them on topwater early and then moved to a slab and did well. There is a topwater lure called the Creek Chub that is Blue and White and about 4# long and it is deadly on the stripers. Trick to catching them Texoma is keeping up with the schools and keep moving. The fish are staying up long and they are awfully spooky due to all the traffic

Not to worry JD, we'll stay away from the "boat shows."
Seems like we owe you a trip where you sit on our boat and sip a cold drink, while Jim and I work the "brick draggin" magic for you.
Sorry we're gonna miss seeing you tomorrow. We'll try to put my "newly college educated" son on some topwater action before he heads off to the real Army.

Is that a Creek Chub darter (chiseled face...a jerk bait) or a Creek Chub popper(stays on the surface)? Louis

Mo Bass- We were using the Creek Chub chiseled face I believe . It would sink a little bit and we switched it along. They tore it up. I thought I would be a wise guy and switch to another topwater color and brand and didnt catch anything. I have been going with this guys for 4 years and we have been using the same topwater and limit out every time.

Appreciate it greatly. Just received his commission on May 28. West Point Class of '05. Going to Ft. Knox for Armor Off. Basic and then to Hood to join 1st Cav.
Next time he gets home will try to bring him up to Texoma and maybe we can meet you for lunch.
Thanks for your service to your country.

Shad are working pretty well, freelined on or near the top. Have a swivel and 18" of flourocarbon leader, red gamagatzu 1/0 wire hook and hook the shad 4"-5" (these have been easy to find catch around 6:00am) from the bottom lip, up into the mouth and through the nostrils. You can add a few split shots on some lines to let is sink a little (especially while drifting).
Cast it out and let out even more line (about a 20 feet).
This worked pretty well at catching large stripers (we caught some smaller stripers down at depth with a 1oz sinker before the swivel). The boat next to us was using slabs (I recommend having those available, because you can only keep 2 fish over 20" per person).

Capsbaker, that time line should put your son down here in "Gods Country" for the fall fishing season....Appreciate the lunch invite, but I would prefer to offer your son and you (family) a free weekend at my lodge and a day or two fishing from my boat at Little Mineral Marina...just so you don't have to drag a boat up here. We can have Viennas for lunch on the water and a great meal at the lodge that my wife, CA, will cook for us...Just be sure to let me know a few weeks in advance and remind me that this is your USMA Grad trip....God Bless and I wish your son a successful and safe career...joebear
