It's a great little lake. Graph for the weeds and you will catch fish.

Have not been there lately but last week TP&W released a bunch of 4-10lb brood fish from their hatcheries into it. They were done with the fish I guess and said they were trying to improve genetics in the lake.
Let us know how it goes.

You can get a permit at the little store across the street from the boat ramp.

Just fished out there about a month ago. It is a $35 permit for your boat. As far as fishing, we caught a ton of fish, not very big, but a bunch, and it was fun. Throw a shallow diving crankbait up in the Northern creek past the dam on the rocks. Then go back with a whacky worm. You will catch around 10 fish on each pass. We had a good mixed bag of Blacks, Spots, and even a nice small mouth thrown in.
Fun lake, you will enjoy it. Plus it is not crowded at all!

The store has really awkward hours. Your best bet is to go to the Gainesville firestation/police department located off 82 in town. Honestly I fish the lake ALOT and havent bought a sticker yet, there was a big argument a few years ago about boats fishing 1 tourney and having to buy a $32 stamp for 1 trip. But do what you want, not saying the police won't be out. As for fishing BLUE FLECK, best color by far. Theres some grass in the far west part thats OK, but the best fish have been coming off docks on wacky rigged sencos or a drop shot or c-rig around the dam. GOOD LUCK !!!!

^^"it is not crowded at all"^^ not true at all. wait till you go out there one day when they're having one of their hick tournaments. both boat ramps are completely filled up and everyone out there will cut 2 ft in front of you to get to their favorite fishing spot. but...if you can catch it on a day when you can have it to yourself, its a great little lake, i personally love it....theres lots of spots out there that produce a 4lb fish for me everytime i go out there, but im not sayin nuthin search those spots out and you'll have a good time! but if you dont, theres always a lot of small fish in there...my pb out of that lake is 7lbs and ive been fishing that lake for a long time, just to give you an idea...

I have never needed a permit. It helps when your brother owns a house on Moss Lake. But yes..the store does have weird hours.

i just keep going till the store is open, if i ever get stopped i just plan on saying, "the store was closed, i'll go buy one now if you want me to." maybe it'll work, maybe it wont. but as you can see, not many people get checked on this lake.

My largest fish out of Moss was an 11.2 pig spawned out, I seen one larger than her but could not get her to bite, I have caught several in the 7-9 pound range.
