I noticed they added three Gars and Smallmouth Buffalo to the TPWD Big Fish Awards List. Never thought I would see that.
Minimum lengths
Buffalo, Smallmouth 62" Gar, Alligator 72" Gar, Longnose 50" Gar, Spotted 42"

62" smallmouth buffalo eh?
I think their numbers may be a little skewed there.

The bad though is Smallmouth Buffalo and Spotted Gar is pretty much unattainable.
The Texas State Record and IGFA World record Spotted Gar is only 36.5 inches long, so you would have to catch one 4.5 inches longer than the current World record to receive a big fish award on that one.
The State Record SM Buff is 43.50 inches. So to get a big fish award on that one, you would have to catch a fish 18.5 inches longer than the current state record.

I think their numbers may be a little skewed there. No kidding. Weren't we out at Pines when we first noticed that? Someone should get ahold of Joedy Gray and point out the inches to weight ratio on buffalo, and remind him he might want to revise that length requirement a little bit lol.

yeah...
it would be a lot easier to find a 72" longnose than a 72" gator...
but it's a start!

Who came up with the criteria??? I noticed Saltwater Red Drum (redfish) award is 25"; I've caught dozens larger than that! That is well within the slot limit (18-28"). It should be 35" easy! Same for Black Drum! Their limit is 20" which is just a baby!
