I bought some 65 pound braid per recommendations here. I also, just for the heck of it, bought some 12 pound fluoro. I bought my first baitcaster, and my first spinning reel. (I used these some as a kid.) I also have 4 spincasters on which I have 10 pound mono.

My question is, between top-waters, worms, crank, and swim baits, how would you alot these reels and types of line?

Put the 65 pound braid on a crig with a 3/4-1oz tungsten wieght and a 20 lb flouro leader, start dragging and hold on. You will feel a turtle fart with that set up.

Okay, so the braid is for wormin'. Would you use it on the spinning reel or the baitcaster or on one of my spincasters -- or does it really matter?

Also, as I asked in another thread, what is the purpose of the leader?

baitcaster for braid, flouro for spinning reel. the purpose of a carolina rig is to keep your bait up off the structure like grass, wood, and muck on the bottom. I wouldnt fish any other worm rigs than a carolina with braid unless your in really weedy waters .put flouro or mono on that spinning reel for T-rigs, swimbaits, and cranks. one thing to remember is don't fish a topwater with flourocarbon line! mono only

Thanks, PondBass. I didn't notice he said Crig. Of course there'd be a leader. But I thought I'd heard of people using leaders with braid for things other than the Crig or was I mistaken? If not, what is the purpose?

Make sure you put a ayer of mono on your baitcaster before you put on the braid. It will you from a lot of frustration

I use braid for every type of bass fishing, and do very well.
Frogs, jigs, worms, rattle traps, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, even jerk baits.
I will only use mono for popper, and zara spooks.
For cranking I'll use both braid or floro.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

You are buying too much;too fast. See what you like and think about each purchase before you make it.

Same here, I switched a couple of reels to braid a few years ago and fell in love with it. Now thats almost all I use, even for finesse fishing.

Thanks for the tip. I read up on what you meant, but fortunately, this brand of braid came with some "arbor tapes" that made this unnecessary. One of these worked really well.

Some Flouro is kind of stiff and the 12 lb may not work real well on the spinning reel. Just in case your line falls off the spool after you cast will be a good sign. Not all flouro is the same. Just a heads up in case it happens to you.

Try braid on the spinning rod and tie a 7 foot leader of fluorocarbon line for great sensitivity.

Well, I'm only buying *one* of each thing, 1 braid, 1 fluoro, 1 baitcaster, 1 spinning reel. I think I have to do that so that I can compare to what I have now and to each other.

GoArmy -- that is exactly what is happening! Thanks for that information. I may have to pull off what I put on and switch the two. I'll find out more tomorrow.

I fish floroclear all the time. When I fish a spook I just add a little fly wax to a couple of feet and boom it floats. I use a floating lizard in a underwater C Rig video that you might check out on my site. It stays above the grass pretty good. That 3/4 oz MPW really does a great job of a C rig weight also. It was drug uphill which is hard to do.
