I haven't ever talked to anyone who has actually paddled the thing. I heard they looked to be about pelican quality tho. I've not actaully seen them myself. I'm more of a costco man... lol

It's the same kayak as the aqualung fish and dive at dick's, minus a few accesories. At sam's it's called a meriweather I think. Looks a lot more solid than a pelican to me, but who knows for sure.

We had a group fish BTB over at High Island this past weekend (close to the Old Dirty Pelican's Pier). One of the new guys had the Meriweather kayaks from Sams. He paid around $300 for the kayak (included was a seat, paddle and foam blocks for transport). I looked it over and it reminded me of Perceptions kayaks. The kayak appeared to be of better quality than the ever so popular pelican. The surf was decent w/ 3' swells 5 second periods and some whitecaps mixed in. Appeared the kayak performed well under the given conditions.

note: I personally did not paddle or test this yak. Just observations. Would I paddle one out in the surf? Well, I would definitely choose it over a Pelican.

Might want to read this before you buy a Sam's kayak.

There has been other reports not so favorable on the TKF, but I can't find them, but here's a link you can read that might give some insight.

http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum...c62931ea110da1b

Most of the reports seem to be about the thin plastic and buckling when the plastic gets hot.

In Texas that's not a good thing!

If you have a Bass Pro Shop near you might check out this one!

It's a little more than the Sam's kayak, but the reviews have been good and I haven't heard anything that would make me steer clear.

I looked at them in person and they seem to be a solid kayak!
