Need some help on how to remove the bottom cowling on a 96 Mercury XL. Need to remove it to get to popet valve. The top snaps off but hadn't figured the bottom out without taking some bolts loose. Any help would be appeciated. Thanks Jeff

Bolts come in sideways bolting the 2 halfs together.

You will have to use a 5/16ths inch deep well socket and an extension for removing those lower pan bolts.

you will need a 5/16 wobble and a long extension to get at the front one

Thanks for the help guys. I was afraid I was going to have to take those bolts out... They are in pretty bad shape. I was hoping there was some trick to it that I couldn't figure out and avoided messing with those bolts.
